Publisher/developer Trion Worlds take over development of Petroglyph Games’ MMORTS.
Last month the imminent launch of End of Nations’ open beta was put on hold in order to allow the MMORTS to be polished up, and now that decision has become clearer as publisher Trion Worlds, are taken the franchise away from Petroglyph Games in order to finish it themselves.
Games development is far from an alien concept for Trion Worlds, after all they’ve developed and launched the immensely popular MMORPG Rift and they’re working on the futuristic MMOFPS Defiance for launch next year, but in industry terms this move is rather unprecedented.
“As End of Nations was reaching the pre-launch phase in its lifecycle, we officially brought the game development in house to Trion Worlds and will complete the development internally. Our team has been hard at work implementing many changes based on your feedback from the beta events. Keep checking back for more updates as we are looking forward to showing off some of the cool new things the team has been working on,” wrote community manager Myll Erik on End of Nations’ official forum.
“In light of the recent announcement around postponement of the End of Nations open beta, we wanted to let you know what we have been hard at work getting End of Nations to the quality level it needs to be at. We are committed to delivering the top-notch product we know this game can be, and we are looking forward to welcoming you back into the testing phase of the game to help get it there.”
Earlier this week reports circulated the web concerning recent lay-offs at Petroglyph, perhaps effecting as many as thirty staffers, and now those reports are beginning to come into focus. The Las Vegas studio still has the Battle of Graxia MOBA to focus on, but there’s no doubt that having End of Nations taken away from them will be a considerable blow to the studio’s reputation.
Expect End of Nations to resurface some time next year.
