Glitch to Close

It’s unfortunately time to say goodbye to Tiny Speck’s cute side-scrolling MMO.

Glitch to Close

had a bit of everything; part crafting, party questing, part social MMO.

2012 has been a tough year for MMOs, we’ve already been told that City of Heroes will close at the end of this month and this December another quality online experience will join it; Glitch.

The Glitch website and forums will be open until the end of the year, but the service itself and mobile API will close on December 9th at 04:00am GMT.

“Unfortunately, Glitch has not attracted an audience large enough to sustain itself and based on a long period of experimentation and our best estimates, it seems unlikely that it ever would. And, given the prevailing technological trends — the movement towards mobile and especially the continued decline of the Flash platform on which Glitch was built — it was unlikely to do so before its time was up. Glitch was very ambitious and pushed the limits of what could be done in a browser-based game … and then those limits pushed back,” stated a lengthy statement from Tiny Speck which can be viewed here.

We took a detailed look at Glitch in the last issue of MMOZine and we have to admit we were very smitten with it.
