Masthead Studio’s defunct MMO to be revived by German studio, SilentFuture.
How’s this for a bolt out of the blue? The sandbox shooter MMO Earthrise is in the process of being resurrected by little known German studio, SilentFuture.
The original creator of the distinctly sci-fi experience Masthead elected to shut down the game way back in February due to falling subscribers and very negative reviews, but at least one developer out there believes the game is worth saving.
“With Earthrise, we’ve taken over an MMO with enormous potential for development. That’s why we started revamping Earthrise earlier this month together with a team of experienced programmers,” explained SilentFuture’s CEO, Daniel Schemann.
“First we intend to address known issues in design and technology, during which we will be focusing on fundamental factors such as network and server performance. But we won’t be neglecting the story and the gameplay, either. Our goal is to present players a gaming experience in the near future which is as exciting as it is varied!”
The most daring part of this re-birth is that SilentFuture are completely retooling the story, with gamers no longer let loose in an post-apocalyptic world, but one that’s on the cusp of monumental change.
Regardless of quality it’s always sad when any game isn’t fully realised by its developer. Here’s hoping Earthrise 2.0 is much more entertaining than its predecessor.
