We’ve teamed up with the free-to-play MMO specialist Jagex to offer you lot exclusive access to their next big online endeavour, 8Realms.
The management simulation/RTS is a big departure for the studio which is known mainly for RuneScape, but we’ve been playing it for the past week and really enjoyed ourselves.
Essentially 8Realms is a similar game to Might & Magic Heroes: Kingdoms with players tasked with guiding a small settlement from relative obscurity to prosperity by drawing up trade routes, forging new technology and creating facilities so that your merry band can continue to grow. As your nation advances they’ll progress through the eight ages ranging from ancient times to the modern day and beyond.
8Realms is entirely browser-based and whether logged in or out, the game world continues to evolve. Each structure planned or unit moved has a real time value, so even though you’ll be playing in spurts of ten to fifteen minutes the decisions you’ve made can take hours to carry out.
It’s bit like playing Civilisation, but rather than devoting an entire day to conquering foes, you merely have to send your troops in, and log-in again in a matter of hours to see how they’ve faired.
