My character has reached the heady heights of level 8 and it's a big jump, not because of any particular new skill, though I do get "Blindside" which promises to combine melee and bow and sounds useful. What really marks level 8 out for my LOTRO character is that I can finally wear some decentish light armour (I can't wear medium armour until level 10). This has leapt my armour level up by nearly 30 points, which I'm hoping will enable me to go back and have a crack at the bears. |

Well, I've at least started to interact with people a little in Shadows of Angmar. The voice chat is only enabled in LOTRO if you join up with other players in a "Fellowship", which you need to do in order to do some of the larger quests. I've received my first "raid" quest, which requires me to find some people to help me take out a goblin camp. |

I have a lovely USB headset which I'll use to voice chat in LOTRO with when I finally join a fellowship, but I went into the audio settings in LOTRO to set it up, I got confused, because selecting the headset for the voice didn't stop the in game music coming out of my speakers.
There must be an easy way to switch between speakers and headphones I finally realised that it was my error and that the game sound is determined by the default audio device in Windows Vista. The sound device here is purely for voice chat. If you want the game audio through the headphones too, then you have to change the default Audio device in Vista and restart the game.On that note, does anyone know of a Vista Widget or small applet that allows you to swap audio devices easily, rather than going and changing them in the Control Panel. It should be easy to switch between speakers and USB headset and it's not at all. |

Shadows of Angmar Level 5

Another couple of hours in and I'm level six, and lots of things have happened in Shadows of Angmar. Firstly, I got my first new "title" – Nymrod the Wary – which I earned by achieving level 5 without being defeated. I promptly celebrated this by getting killed. Repeatedly. I suspect that had I reached level 10 undefeated, I'd have got some fancier title, but sadly it was not to be. |

I 'm a couple of hours into LOTRO Shadows of Angmar now and amazingly I've managed to not speak to anyone. I've run around and killed lots of wildlife that would have been quite happy to ignore me, except for the fact that I was converting them all into porcupines with my bow and arrow. That's worked find for me and I'm now a magnificent level 4 hunter. Now, while all RPGs level you up quickly at the lower levels, it has been something of an unsatisfying process so far. For a start, I've hardly done anything to earn my levels. |
