Temporary Fellowships in LOTRO

Tuesday, 22 May 2007
You don't really expect to need help when your level 11 character faces off against a swarm of bees. But when the bees are hard to hit, and they followed up by a couple of angry bears, as happens in one quest by a willow tree in The Shire, you may find that you need a bit of help. I did, and it turned out, so did someone else standing right next to me when I'd failed the quest for the third time. Thus, a temporary fellowship was formed.

Can I install LOTRO on multiple PCs?

Tuesday, 22 May 2007
If you want to be able to play LOTRO from more than one location (at home or, ahem, at work, for example), then the good news is that you character your right to play is tied to your COG account, rather than to the installation of the LOTRO game software. In other words, you can install the software where you like and then log in with your COG details.

What are LOTRO Destiny Points?

Tuesday, 22 May 2007
Spend Destiny Points in LOTROAs you progress through Shadows of Angmar, you will earn things called LOTRO Destiny Points. You get them for various deeds, etc, but what are they? Quite simply they are currency to buy temporary buffs for your character. If you are finding a particular encounter difficult, you can buy a buff using Destiny Points and hopefully do better.

LOTRO Voice Chat in Fellowship

Typing messages to other players of a fellowship, especially when you're in the middle of a fight, is incredibly difficult. LOTRO Shadows of Angmar has a solution to this in the Voice Chat feature. This allows you to plug in a headset and talk to other members of the fellowship who have enabled the feature. I tried out this feature myself last night when the fellowship we'd set up on Saturday reconvened in Shadows of Angmar, but this time from our individual homes. We had to iron out a few settings, but the system works.

What is a COG Account?

Monday, 21 May 2007
The CodeMaster Online Gaming Account (or COG Account for short) is the real world account you hold with CodeMasters, the makers of LOTRO, for LOTRO: Shadows of Angmar. You need to create an account as the first thing you do, before trying to log into LOTRO. Whether you are running the full game, or using a 7 day trial activation code, you cannot get into LOTRO without a COG account.
