Starting a trade in LOTRO
As if
LOTRO Deeds weren't enough of the sort of mini-quest variety, you soon discover that you are eligible to take up a LOTRO trade, or profession. This adds another level of purpose to your wanderings, as well as additional "craft" quests. For example, I decided to become a jeweller and discovered that as part of that I also get to learn cooking and do some mining.
I'm only at the beginning of working out exactly how to practice my trade, but it appears to involve going out and mining some of the deposits that you see around the place in LOTRO (Tin deposit, Copper deposit, etc) and if you're lucky, you will get a rough stone as part of the "drop" (what the mining yields to you). You can the take the rough stone back to a bench and work on it with your tools to create crafted gem.As with all the other elements in LOTRO, your trade is upgradable, but practising it and by obtaining better tools. When you first talk to the Master of Apprentices and select a Trade, you will get a set of the lowest quality tools, but you can buy better ones almost immediately - find the Apprentice nearby for your chosen profession. You can only be skilled in one Trade, so choose wisely. When you have done, then you will find it hard to complete the craft quests that you are not skilled in, unless you work together with some friends.
