Silver Ore location in LOTRO - Barrow iron ore too

Since I wrote about prospecting and mining in LOTRO, I've had an email asking for more details on where the ore deposits are in Bree and the surrounding area. Here's a complete rundown of the general places I've found ore and what type of ore it was in LOTRO. It's important to remember that ore deposits are randomised to an extent in LOTRO, so there are a couple of places in each general area that the deposits will appear. Also, this is purely based on my own experience and other people may find ore drops different.

Firstly, copper ore is one of the most common ores in LOTRO and it's one of the ones you need to mine to increase proficiency at the most basic level. It's all over Ered Luin, and you'll also find lots of deposits along the Bree road to the west of Bree and follow the river to the North of Bree.

To the North of Bree, you'll also find some Tin deposits, which you can mine and combine with copper ore to make bronze ingots.

Don't steal someone else's ore deposit

Also up to the north of Bree, you'll find Barrow Iron ore deposits - you need to be Apprentice (level 2) Prospector in order to be able to mine these. You don't need any more advanced tools, just to advanced to Apprentice Prospector by mining enough ore and then smelting it (it's the smelting at a forge in LOTRO that advances your Prospector rank). A more reliable place to find Barrow Iron ore though is in the Barrow Downs. Follow the road west of Bree and then North off it and go up a track into the Northen Barrow Downs. There are 4 ore deposit areas that appear in the immediate vicinity. Random, of course, but follow the lip round to the east and you will find one of them between the entrance and the barrow entrance at the back (unless someone has mined it recently, of course). The Barrow Downs are home to wights and some harder crawly creatures, so you need to be able to reasonably defend yourself (level 12 upwards, I would say).

In the barrow downs as well as Barrow Iron ore, you will find another level 2 ore, Silver Ore. This seems to have about a 1 in 4 appearance rate (3 Barrow Iron ore deposits appear to every one Silver Ore). You can also find some Silver Ore occasionally in southern Ered Luin, but it appeared very rare to me.

Lastly, you can also find Barrow Down ore and Silver in The Old Forest, just to the west of the Barrow Downs.

So far, that's the extent of my experience of ore drops, but I'd be glad to hear from other people, especially about whether they have found the level 3 ores anywhere.

And my final note is about mining etiquette in LOTRO, and it's aimed at the "expert prospector" who stalked after me and then mined the ore from deposits while I had to deal with the attacking wildlife - simply, not cool. In case you hadn't realised, an ore deposit in LOTRO only has one ore drop within it, so when someone mines it, it disappears until it respawns, nearby by normally in a slightly different place. Two people cannot mine the same deposit. If someone else is clearly staking a claim to an ore deposit, move one and play nice, or you just look like a ****.
