Another couple of hours in and I'm level six, and lots of things have happened in Shadows of Angmar. Firstly, I got my first new "title" – Nymrod the Wary – which I earned by achieving level 5 without being defeated. I promptly celebrated this by getting killed. Repeatedly. I suspect that had I reached level 10 undefeated, I'd have got some fancier title, but sadly it was not to be. LOTRO throws lots of new things at you in these early levels, which is a good thing. I've got the skill to play a clarinet – essential in any adventurer, I think. "Woah, stay away from him, he's got some sort of wind instrument." "Is it? I don't know, I've always thought it was sort of allied to the brass section." "No, it's your classic wind…" [thwack] as my arrows end the orcish orchestration oratory.
Upon being killed, you respawn in a safe area, but you get to keep any of the items you've looted up til then. Which makes me wonder what exactly is the real penalty for being defeated (you do get a small penalty (or de-buff? Must look that up) on your character for a short period of time – 10 mins) but it's not a concern really. I've also progressed from the introductory quests, which did appear to follow a sort of main quest story line, hinting that I'll return to it later, but I don't know whether I will. (Incidentally, in case people are wondering why I don't know the answers to these questions of what happens in the game, I've kept myself deliberately away from the games until now so that what I write is discovered as per any new player.) I've now got the option to learn some crafts, so I can make things, or cook. I haven't made any decision on this yet. Additionally, I've done some deeds, which get marked down, like killing wolves, which basically acknowledge I'm an absolute hero and I can check these deeds to remind myself of the fact. And finally as you can see, I've got a fancy feather hat, because my elf wasn't looking enough like a dandy. Sorted. Trackback(0)

No, apparently every player can play to other people whether a minstrel or not. What makes the designers think the fact I am tone deaf in real life is going to translate to Mozart like compositions in Middle Earth mystifies me, but I shall find a way to entertain others with some music soon. I'll probably record it for everyone to enjoy.
