"How do you power level in LOTRO?" "What's the best way to grind through levels in LOTRO?" Two questions that sound like nonsense to most people, but basically they are asking the same question that I found myself asking when a friend wanted to level up as quickly as possible so that they could join me on fellowship quests without getting killed in a split second. So, how do you go about advancing through LOTRO levels as quickly as possible?
I've got several tips, but firstly, don't try and zip through the levels unless you need to, because most of the fun of LOTRO is in the exploration and the messing about with areas that don't offer you level advancements, like starting a trade in LOTRO. How to power level in LOTRO Assuming you have got a "good" reason for needing to power level in LOTRO, then there are some basic ways you can improve the value of the grind (grinding being simply killing things in LOTRO for the sake of experience). #1 Partner up in a fellowship The first thing to do is create a fellowship with a higher level friend, someone who is going to watch your back. Now, go off and find some high level creatures that you wouldn't normally have a hope of beating and then let your friend draw them on and deal with them. Just make sure you get a hit in - I can't be sure whether you need to just be in the fellowship and present at the fight or whether you actually need to strike the enemy or hit them with a spell, but to be safe we made sure that the lower level character did get a hit in. Sure enough, the lower level character gets much more XP for these foes than the higher level one in LOTRO. #2 Any deed is a good deed for XP in LOTRO The next thing to do should be in conjunction with the first. LOTRO has a set of deeds that involve you killing a lot of one type of creature or enemy. So, try and find a higher level enemy that congregates in one area and has a deed attached - we chose Brigand Slayer and Wight Slayer in Bree. Both would have been hard for the lower level character by themselves, but easy with my higher level LOTRO chaperone. When you complete a deed, you get a varying amount of XP, but of course the XP for deeds that involve killing multiple higher level enemies can be worth lots of XP in LOTRO. If you can't find a friend to help you, you can always just concentrate on more manageable deeds by yourself, because as well as the general grinding XP, you will get the bonus XP from the deed. #3 Choose your LOTRO quests wisely It surely doesn't take a genius to work out that delivering a pie in The Shire is not going to earn you as much XP as killing 10 wights in the Barrow Downs. Finishing quests gains you valuable XP, but don't be afraid to avoid ofr leave hanging the simple fetch and carry quests that aren't going to earn you much. If you're working to a deadline to level, you'll do better by finding more aggressive quests and completing them. #4 Choose your LOTRO area wisely Like choosing your quests, choose the area in LOTRO that you are going to grind in carefully. For example, Ered Luin and Breeland are much more dangerous and have more enemies for you to kill for XP than The Shire. In fact, in my experience The Shire is mostly set up for burglars (unsurprisingly, as it's the Hobbit home and starting place) so there are ways to level up (slowly) by fetching and carrying, which are too time consuming for the power-leveller! Get out of there and off to somewhere where a knife is for something other than cutting a pie. These are my first tips for quick advancement in LOTRO< but if other people have other power levelling LOTRO tips, please drop me a line.
