LOTRO Character generation |

Creating a LOTRO character was a set of difficult decisions. Not because of LOTRO, but because of my preferences for RPG characters. First of all you have to choose a race/sex. I'd settled on Elf Female, when I suddenly realised that Shadows of Angmar is an MMO, not an RPG and I'll be likely to talk to people. Now while I'm certain plenty of people choose characters of their opposite sex in an MMO, I figured not me on my first time out. Incidentally, the reason for Elf Female, is that I think Elf Males always look so girly, I'd rather just have the female avatar. Anyway, as you can see, I opted to go for male Elf, if you can tell. I was also going to go for Champion, as I thought melee combat ability is almost always the easiest way to initiate yourself to a game. In the end though, I went with Hunter, whose primary role is ranged because it looked slightly more interesting without being too hard. It remains to be seen how easy it is to fight with a bow though, because some games (I'm thinking Fable, here) make ranged fun, but ultimately just an exercise in getting killed.
Of course, choosing a name is difficult, because anything normal has gone. Now for the past six years all my characters in RPGs have been called Nimrod (Nimrod I (just called Nimrod) through to Nimrod XXV [Neverwinter Nights 2]) and it turned out that even this name had been taken. By swapping out the "i" for "y", I managed to get "Nymrod", but I felt like a little part of myself had died. No, you can also only have a forename when you start out (and no spaces), as you earn a surname later on, but you also run around with a title, like "Nymrod, Defender of Blahdy-blah" so I couldn't really have had "XXVI" as well, but I don't know what I'll call any additional LOTRO characters. The moral is: you're going to have to go with a silly name in LOTRO, just live with it. Trackback(0)
