Coming soon, you can add to your menagerie of virtual pets on your Nintendo DS, regardless of how unsuitable your home might be for keeping animals. Horse Life, out in November, will give you the chance to own and care for your very own horse. Not only that, but you get to ride it too and compete in a range of competitions. There was a time when people were happy to have a solitary goldfish as a pet. Or maybe a couple of newts, if they were really lucky. But then the Japanese unleashed their pesky little Tamagotchi and everything changed. Now there's probably a digital division of the RSPCA dealing with complaints about owners being cruel to their Nintendogs…

But why bother with a virtual canine when you can be the proud owner of a bigger, smarter and faster beast? While a Nintendog might be a man's best handheld friend, there are only so many times you can stroke that fur and throw that stick. Horse Life though, aims to show just how much fun can be had when horsing around.
