Race Driver Create and Race preview DS

Race Driver Create and Race preview for Nintendo DS

Race Driver Create and Race comes to the DS, and makes great use of the touchscreen format, this month. With 25 cars and 32 real world tracks to choose from, that's already a good start to any racing game, but in Race Driver Create and Race, you can edit and customise your own tracks. We've been playing Race Driver this month, and we have all the latest details about the game in this issue. We've also been talking to lead producer on the game, Jamie Firth, who tells us more about bringing Race Driver to the DS for the first time. When we first picked up Race Driver: Create & Race, we weren't too sure what to expect. A ‘realistic' racing game on a handheld like the DS? A game that seems to be pushing its track editor as much as the actual game itself? Fortunately, spending a few minutes with the game is enough to put anybody's mind at ease, as Race Driver is really shaping up to be an incredibly accomplished title. To begin with, although the DS isn't the most powerful of handhelds, the game runs at a solid 60 FPS, and is looking absolutely gorgeous to boot. Whether you're racing through cities or the open fields of a race track, there's only the slightest hint of pop-up, and the framerate never seems to drop below the magical six-zero.
