Survival-horror favourite Silent Hill comes to the PSP with Silent Hill Origins, which explores the backstory before the timeline of the original PSOne game. Fans of the series will recognise a number of locations and characters from the first game, but with a twist that makes Silent Hill Origins a totally new game. Silent Hill Origins PSP review
R ecommending any game from the Silent Hill series is always tricky. This is because Konami’s survival horror, when it’s at its peak and working well, is a dark, oppressive, disorientating experience capable of leaving nerves chewed and frayed. Whether all this would work on the PSP was in doubt, as Silent Hill is masterful at drawing you into its grimy world, a process that’s much more difficult when you’re sitting on a crowded bus. Fortunately, UK developers Climax have crafted an incredible game that draws you in right from the start.

Silent but deadly
Set before the events of the original PSone game, Origins has trucker Travis Grady being lured into the cursed town of Silent Hill after saving a young girl from a burning house. Consequently the game shares a lot of the same locations and characters from the original game, but this never feels like a tired retread, as the environments are used so creatively.
