Love is in the air in the World of Warcraft as the Valentines event goes live between the 7th and 20th of February, and we bring you our guide to completing the event.
This time the event is quite different to previous years, and should make gaining the achievements much easier – good news for those who still need to complete the event to get closer to their Proto Drake mount from What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been.’
There are also a few new achievements in the event this year for those who have already completed it, as well as a new pet and a Flying Mount to earn.
To complete the meta-achievement and gain your title of ‘…the Lovefool’ you need to complete 12 of the event achievements.
I will go into more detail on these later, but first, the basics.
The event is very different to last year, and you are no longer at the mercy of the random number generator, but some effort is still involved. The first thing to do is head to any of the capital cities in Azeroth for your faction. In the centre of town you should see some new Goblin NPCs.
Last years event required you to pester the city guards and NPCs on an hourly basis, in the hope that the random number generator would give you one of the items you needed. This year, all of the items needed for the achievement are purchasable from an event vendor in exchange for Love Tokens.
The Love Tokens are rewards for completing the Love is in the Air daily quests. Although the items are now easier to obtain, and you won’t need to log in every hour, you will still need to remember to complete the daily quests each day if you need all of the achievements.
As this is only the first day of the event, not all of the daily quests are known, but one of the quests available today was:
- Bonbon Blitz – Toss 10 people samples from the Crown Chocolate Sampler.
A nice easy quest to complete – just use the Crown Chocolate Sampler in your bag when you have another player targeted to throw them a sample. Do this 10 times, and you’ll earn yourself 5 Love Tokens and a bit of gold for your troubles.
Now, on to those achievements.
- Charming – Create 12 Lovely Charm Bracelets
The Charm Bracelets are also new this year. Seek out Kwee Q. Peddlefeet by the other Goblin quest givers and obtain a Lovely Charm Collectors Kit.
To create a Lovely Charm you need to collect 10 Lovely Charms and combine them. To obtain the Charms, simply head on out and kill mobs that are around your level, and give XP (or would if you weren’t level 80). You may need to kill quite a few enemies to get all of the Charm Bracelets, as the Charms are not a 100% guaranteed drop, but you can combine this with your normal questing routine.
- Flirt With Disaster – Get completely smashed, put on your best perfume, throw a Handful of Rose Petals on Sraaz/Jeremiah Payson and then kiss him.
Sraaz is the Gnome pie vendor wandering around Ironforge, and Jeremiah Payson is the Cockroach vendor in Undercity.
- Dangerous Love – Assist the Steamwheedle Cartel in stopping the sinister Crown Chemical Co. Plot.
To earn this achievement, you must complete one of the ‘Crushing the Crown’ daily quests offered during this event from either Detective Snap Snagglebolt (Orgrimmar), or Inspector Snip Snagglebolt (Stormwind).
This is a daily quest offered to all players of at least Level 5, and requires you to kill 5 Crown mobs, and use Snagglebolt’s Khorium Bomb to destroy a chemical wagon in a certain location.
The mobs and location vary depending on your level, and range from starter zones to Crystalsong Forest.
- Nation of Adoration – Complete the Lovely Charm Bracelet daily quest for each Alliance/Horde capital.
Another daily quest offered by the Goblins asks you to present a Lovely Charm Bracelet to the leader of the city you are in. Do this on four of the days through the event to earn this achievement.
- Sweet Tooth – Sample the Love is in the Air candies listed.
Using your Love Tokens, purchase a Box of Chocolates from the event vendor and eat the contents. Each chocolate will actually provide a nice little buff, and they do all stack together, so if you have any spare Love Tokens towards the end of the event, it may be worth buying yourself a few boxes.
- My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose – Obtain a Bouquet of Red Roses or a Bouquet of Ebon Roses during the Love is in the Air celebration.
To get your Bouguet of Roses you will need to head into one of the following instances, and kill the named boss.
- Utgarde Keep – Prince Keleseth
- Ahn’Kahet: The Old Kingdom – Prince Taldaram
- Halls of Stone – Maiden of Grief
This can be completed on both Normal and Heroic difficulty.
- Shafted! – Shoot 10 players with the Silver Shafted Arrow.
Another item obtained from the event vendor, this one for a total of 10 tokens, as you will need to purchase two sets of arrows. A nice, easy achievement to earn.
- Lonely? – Enjoy a Buttermilk Delight with someone in Dalaran at a Romantic Picnic during the Love is in the Air celebration.
First of all, you’ll need to buy a Box of Chocolates from the event vendor. Once you have a Buttermilk Delight, head to Dalaran and find another player sat down with a Picnic Basket, or set down your own if you have bought one from the event vendor.
When you are sat with another player, just eat your Buttermilk Delight to earn this achievement.
- The Rocket’s Pink Glare – Shoot off 10 Love Rockets in 20 seconds or less.
Nice and easy. Just buy 10 Love Rockets from the Lovely Merchant, add them to a Hotkey on your action bars, and bash the button until you have launched all the rockets and earnt your achievement.
- Fistful of Love – Use a Handful of Rose Petals on each of the race/class combinations listed.
Once you have some more Love Tokens, buy some Rose Petals from the Lovely Merchant and keep an eye out for the following:
- Orc Death Knight
- Human Death Knight
- Orc Shaman
- Troll Rogue
- Blood Elf Mage
- Dwarf Hunter
- Gnome Warlock
- Night Elf Priest
- Tauren Druid
- Undead Warrior
- Draenei Paladin
The easiest place to do this is in Dalaran, where Horde and Alliance run around together. Thankfully, most of the combinations are fairly common, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble with this one. If you do find yourself missing one or two towards the end of the event, just make a deal with a fellow Guildie to roll a new character of the combination you need and meet them in the starter zone.
- Be Mine! – Eat the eight Bag of Heart Candies candies listed.
Purchase a bag of candies using your Love Tokens. Each bag has 10 charges, and the contents are random – you need to eat each of the eight candies.
- Be Mine!
- All yours.
- Hot lips.
- You’re the best!
- I’ll follow you all around Azeroth.
- I’m all yours!
- You’re mine!
- I LOVE YOU
If luck is on your side you may get all eight in your first bag, but if the random number generator isn’t in the loving mood you could find yourself chasing that final candy throughout the whole event.
- I Pitied The Fool – Pity the Love Fool in the locations specified.
The easiest, and cheapest, way to complete this achievement is to group up with a few friends. All buy a Love Fool or two each from the event vendor, and head to the locations listed below. Drop a Love Fool, target it and do /pity.
- Wintergrasp
- Arathi Basin Blacksmith
- Naxxramas
- Battle Ring of Gurubashi Arena
- The Culling of Stratholme
If you are on your own for this, you will need to buy five Love Fools, as the item is consumed on use, which is why it is better to do this with friends to save yourself having to spend as many Love Tokens.
Based on the locations involved, you will need to be at maximum level to complete this achievement.
That is the last of the achievements required to complete the meta-achievement, and earn yourself the Love Fool title.
There are three more achivements involved with the event, but they are not required to earn the title, and so are entirely optional.
- Perma-Peddle – Obtain a permanent Peddlefeet pet by procuring a Truesilver Shafted Arrow.
Last year this was entirely random, and one I missed out on myself. With the change to the Love Tokens this year, you can simply purchase the Peddlefeet pet with 40 Love Tokens.
If you need to complete the whole event for your title, I would recommend leaving this until the end just in case you need your Love Tokens for other achievements and only buy it if you have any spare.
- Tough Love – Defeat the trio of Crown Chemical Co. Apothecaries in Shadowfang Keep.
This year we have a set of new bosses for the event, much like Coren Direbrew for Brewfest. The bosses are in Shadowfang Keep, and you can obtain the daily quest to kill them from outside the instance.
These are not required for the overall completion of the event, but are definitely worth doing as they drop some decent Level 80 loot, as well as the new non-combat pet and flying Love Rocket mount.
- Lovely Luck Is On Your Side – Open a Lovely Dress Box and receive a Lovely Black Dress.
Another item to save until the end of the event, and buy if you have some spare tokens left over.
Good luck with the event, and have fun, lovers!
