There are many different ways to play through Splinter Cell Conviction. This walkthrough is how we played the game. The first part of the Walkthrough begins after the ‘Merchant’s Street Market,’ which acts purely as a tutorial.
KOBIN’S MANSION
- Synopsis
Using Gramkos`information, Sam infiltrates Kobin’s mansion in order to get some answers about who killed his daughter, and why. But the answers Kobin provides aren’t quite what Sam was looking for.
Objectives
1) Infiltrate Kobin’s Mansion
2) Reach Kobin’s Quarters
3) Interrogate Kobin
Before you begin - Check your PEC Challenges in the main menu. You get points for a variety of different things, so you may want to tackle enemies in a certain way to acheive upgrades and new gadgets.
You begin this mission on the street outside of Kobin’s Mansion. Head toward the mansion and your objective marker. You can set off car alarms down the street, which ensures that the cries of your first victim cannot be heard, but you don’t need to set them off. There’s a door on the left hand side of the road that leads toward the mansion. There are two guards behind it. Use the mirror that you’ve just acquired to peak under the door. One guard is standing with his back to you. You can bash this door open and take him out immediately, or you can open it quickly and execute and hand-to-hand takedown. Check your menu and view the PEC Challenges. You’re awarded with points for different actions, so it’s wise in the initial stages to rack up the big points as quickly as possible while the opposition isn’t that tough.
Once you’ve killed this guy, move back into the street as it’s likely the other guard will have been alerted. You can move up the street and behind the guard, crouching behing the tree and waiting for him to walk past before you perform another silent takedown. Of course, you could just shoot him. Climb up the building where indicated and hang onto the ledge just underneath the window. You can press B for a ledge grab and kill the guard standing at the window. Many of the guards drop Desert Eagle’s but they don’t have a silence suppressor on them so when you fire you’ll alert other guards. You’re better sticking to what you’ve got. Climb up through the window and turn off the light switch on the wall. Peak under the door on the left hand side. Mark the target with the RB button and perform an execute move to dispatch him effortlessly. Go through the door onto the balcony.
Wherever you go in the building keep an eye out for light switches. You should turn them off at every opportunity. When the screen turns black and white you can’t be seen. On the door on the right hand side are two guards. Open the door and go through while crouching, they can’t see you because it is too dark. You can get close enough to them to execute a hand-to-hand kill on at least one of them, just shoot the other guy with your silenced pistol if he is alerted. Move through this room to the next door which brings you out onto the balcony. Before you go through use your mirror under the door because a guard will be patrolling. Wait until he has moved and then go out onto the balcony and follow the objective marker down the corridor.
Here you’ll find your first weapon stash where you can upgrade weapons and gadgets. If you’ve racked up enough points then you may be able to buy some items. Here’s a good time to check your PEC Challenges in the menu to see what you need to do to get points. If you tailor your killing specifically to get these points you’ll soon get access to upgrades. Once you’ve finished with the weapon stash move around to the right hand side into the next room and shoot out the lights. Move down to the far end of the balcony where you’ll see a pipe that you can climb. Climb up the pipe and stop over the guard below. Here you’ll be able to execute your first death from above kill by pressing LT. Move across up the stairs to the opposite balcony. Shoot the lights out again, which will make the guard come looking for you. Use the pillars for cover and watch his movements so you can get behind him and do a hand-to-hand takedown. Another guard may also come up on the balcony so just apply the same technique.
If you look over the balcony you’ll see five or six guards patrolling. See that big light fitting dangling from the ceiling in the middle of the room? You can shoot that and send it crashing down on those below. Strangely, there’s a car with its headlights on down below too. Just get into the right position on the balcony and shoot out the headlights to create more cover. You can tackle the remaining guards in a variety of ways. You could mark two of them and execute, which will also give you some points for acheiving one of the PEC Challenges. You could dangle from the balcony and peform a death from above kill, or simply go downstairs and use the cover to perform stealthy hand-to-hand kills.
Move downstairs toward your objective marker making sure you turn off any lights on the way. As you enter the first corridor you’ll unlock some EMP grenades. These will stun enemies. Check your PEC Challenges to see how you can get points from using them. Sneak down the stairs and get to the first point of cover you come across (this will be clearly labelled.) There are four guys in this room. You could mark and execute them, use the pillars and cover to sneak up on them individually, or move to the left hand side of the room where you’ll find a pipe that you can climb to execute death from above takedowns. You can chuck a couple of EMP grenades while hanging from the pipe and they’ll have no clue where they came from. Remember, you don’t need to kill all of the guards. If you like you could just carry on to the next area. Head to the North East side of this room and use your mirror to peak under the door. Open the door and hand-to-hand kill when his back is turned.
Move through the door into the next area. There’s a light switch on the right hand side that you can turn off. Move forward up the east side of the room and shoot out the lights. A guard will come looking for you so use cover and execute a hand-to-hand kill. There’s another guard in this area who you can kill, but you can easily bypass him and move through to the next area where you’ll find another weapons stash to upgrade. Head toward the objective marker which will now take you outside. Head up the drainpipe and perform a ledge kill at the window. You can stay at the window and mark the two goons for execution if you wish, or move through the window and use cover to execute stealth kills. Move forward into the hallway where you’ve just killed the two guards. Go upstairs and take out all of the lights along the balcony. No guards should disturb you. Now move to the doorway where it says “Grab Sarah’s Killer.” This is the tricky bit.
You can peak under the door and mark as many enemies as you can and then open the door (or bash it for some points) and execute. Be prepared for a fight. Move back onto the balcony and take up cover behind one of the pillars. You’ll be in the dark, so any advancing enemies will wander around looking for you. You should be able to pick these guards off. When the coasts is clear move forward into the room where the enemies came from. Here you’ll see Kobin going mental with a machine gun. You can sneak down the right hand side and get close enough to him to grab him. You’ll have some fun interrogating him (smash his head into the piano or dangle him over the balcony.) Mission over.
