are optional side-quests that can earn you fame and honor as well as bag you some extra cash. We’ll be adding to this guide regularly so be sure to check out the main Red Dead Redemption guide page for other Stranger Missions and tips.

This is called “” and is unlocked when you complete the main “Women And Cattle.”

Where to find it?

In Gaptooth Ridge, just on the road underneath the “R” and the “i” of RIDGE if you look at your map. You’ll see a man named Sam Odessa sitting by a rock playing a tune on his harmonica (look out for the ? icon.)

This task is split up into a number of parts as you’ll see Sam sporadically over the next few days (in-game time.) Sam says that he’s on his way to California and will catch a coach to get there, but you’ll have to search for him in different areas to reach the conclusion and finish the mission.

At no point should you point your gun at Sam otherwise you will fail the mission. After the first encounter, search for Sam two days later in the area near Gaptooth Ridge, North of Cueva Seca near to the road. It seems he’s going a bit crazy at this stage but tells you he’s still focused on getting to California.

You’ll then have to find him again a couple of days later. This time you’ll find him on the road in Gaptooth Ridge again, but slightly north of Tumbleweed in the road running northwards from the letter ‘D.’ This time he’s getting aggressive.

Leave it two days again and head back to the same area, heading south down the road leading from Tumbleweed. You’ll find his body being devoured by vultures. Search Sam and you’ll find some cash and a letter which you then have to deliver to the freight office in Armadillo. Deliver this and you’ll get Treasure Hunter Outfit Scrap 2.
