Got to Azalea Town? Time to get another badge! Before heading into the Gym you’ll need to do two things; Talk to Kurt and clear Team Rocket from the Slowpoke well. Get the run down after the jump.
First of all, head to the Northwest part of town and chat to Kurt. He’ll give you the low down on what is happening to the Slowpoke well and obviously wants your help to clear Team Rocket out of there. Follow him over to the well and jump on in.
If you haven’t caught a Slowpoke or Zubat then make sure to grab some of the wild Pokémon roaming in this area. You can even grab a Goldeen and Seaking if you have a fishing rod on you.
The battles in the Slowpoke well are pretty simple. You’ll be facing Rattatas and Zubats ranging from levels 7-11. The boss Proton holds a level 12 Koffing so keep antidotes at the ready! This isn’t a tough battle at all and you’ll be saving the Slowpoke soon after.
Returning to Azelea Town will trigger a battle with your rival. Their highest level Pokémon will be level 18 by now and I highly suggest you have at least 2 Pokémon at level 20. Remember that your rival chose a Pokémon that would be super effective against your starting one, so it can be a tough battle.
Now you can pop into Azalea Gym. Welcome to bug country! Each trainer here specializes in bug type Pokémon, so having some Fire, Fighting or Rock type Pokémon would be ideal. Leader Bugsy has 3 Pokémon ranging from levels 15-17. Scyther being the toughest due to the high damage it can cause. Try make this battle the quickest. Metapod and Kakuna are pretty easy to take out and their only real tough spot is how high their defence can become. Bringing your Onix into the battle will make the whole process run much smoother.
Beating leader Bugsy will net you TM89 and the Hive Badge. TM89 lets you teach U-Turn to one of your Pokémon, a pretty strong bug move.
