One of the toughest battles in Mass Effect 2 is against the huge Geth Colossus and the Geth foot soldiers. Check out this guide for tips and strategies on how to beat the Geth Colossus.
The Geth Colossus has strong armour and weapons capable of taking you out in a couple of blasts. But you also have to contend with the Geth foot-soldiers.
There are three paths that you can take to get near to the Geth Colossus. Don’t try and take it out from a distance. The best path is down the far left hand side on the upper level. If you take the middle you’re open to attack from both sides and straight in front of you from the Geth Colossus. Down the left-hand side, you can use the cover spots to hide from the blasts of the Colossus and can tackle the Geth foot soldiers from directly in front of you.
When the action starts get behind cover overlooking the central area. From here you can safely assign your two squad mates commands without getting hit. Let them do some of the tough work for you, pop up to deliver head-shots to Geth foot-soldiers when safe, and remember to use your Unite ability to heal should anyone go down. Watch out for the Geth coming at you from the stairs on the right. You should be able to pop out of cover and take it down with the likes of a battle rifle or a sniper rifle with little problem.
As long as enemies aren’t closing in to rapidly, stay in this position until you’ve killed nearby Geth soldiers. Ignore the Geth Colossus for now. When you’re ready, run up the left hand stairs and take cover. There’s a lot of Geth coming your way and as you push forward more will appear from the top of the next set of steps. Only move forward from cover when you see no more enemies. Otherwise stay put in cover, send commands to your troops and pop out to help them out. This is a good area to use the sniper rifle as you have a clear view right to the top of the next set of steps.
Up the next set of steps, you’ll encounter the Geth Colossus. It’s difficult to concentrate on taking him down with more Geth swanning about, so use your weaker weapons to take them out and command your squad to use the appropriate special powers to see them off quickly. You can use the wall at the top of the steps for cover, moving in and out of cover to avoid the fire from the Colossus.
When the coast is clear and there’s only the Geth Colossus left, it’s time to get the heavy weapons out. A missile launcher, grenade launcher are perfect, as are some of the special powers that you team-mates have such as Overload and tech abilities such as Sabotage. If you have a shield-based power, such as Barrier, now is the time to use it as you may take some heavy damage. Throw everything that you’ve got at the Geth Colossus — aiming for the head will take the shields down quicker. Remember the cooldown period for the special powers, and keep popping back into the squad menu to issue them to your crew.
There are other strategies that you can employ to beat the Colossus, but we’ve found that making sure all the Geth soldiers are out of the way before you takle it, ensures that your squad are completely free to concentrate fire soleyl on the Colossus. The more joint firepower the better!
