Lost Planet 2 Walkthrough – Episode 4: Counterstrike – Chapter 3

Published on May 10th, 2010

This is the toughest Chapter so far by a long shot. You’ll not only need to be choosy with your weaponry you’ll have to be tactical about how you attack

AREA 1

In this area you’ll have plenty of VS Suits to contend with, the most so far. The area ends with you having to defend the space station which comes under attack from enemy Osprey (helicopters.)

Objectives

1) Activate dataposts to acquire enemy intel

2) Destroy Bleed VSs

3) Shoot down the Ospreys

As you move along the cliff face you’ll see a rocket launcher, you’ll need it. As you move into the open area you’ll see two VS Suits and two small buildings that have a mounted turret on the top. Good time to use those rockets you’ve just picked up.  Keep moving toward the front of the facility and you’ll see datapost 2. To get to datapost 1 you need to double back on yourself head up the cliff ramp to the South. As you reach the top of the hill, you’ll see the datapost marked on your map. If you want to you could head to this area first and then pick up the VS Suit that is situated just at the front of the entrance to the small building that houses datapost 1.  This VS Suit can fly for quite a long period of time.  Personally, we’d do the dataposts in this order and use the VS Suit for the next section which is more difficult.

Head back toward the front of the larger building, the space station and you can grapple up two levels to the roof. Datapost 3 is on the first level and datapost 4 is on the roof. You’ll see them on the map. As soon as you activate datapost 4 you’ll be tasked with shooting down the ospreys (helicopters) which will converge in the sky to the front of the building. You’ll now see a red bar which represents the health of the building if that reaches the bottom you’ve failed the mission. This is quite tough. The Ospreys will drop off reinforcements who will scale the walls to attack you. At ground level there are VS Suits pummeling the building. On each level you’ll find rocket launchers, we’d save these for taking down the Osprey. On ground level use the recently acquired VS Suit to help take down the other VSs. Machine gun fire will make short work of the guys scaling the building, they’re the least of your worries.  The best tactic we found was to hop between the two levels of the building and the ground floor, picking up the best heavy weapons and taking out the enemies that provided the most threat.  Helicopters first, head down to ground level to take out VS Suits, and then back up to take out more Osprey that appear.  Job done. Area complete.

AREA 2

In this area you not only have to activate dataposts, but you also need to deactivate gates so that you can progress past the lightening harvesters.

Objectives

1) Shut down lightening harvesters

2) Activate data posts

There’s a datapost right in front of you, but you’ll have to contend with the spider-like Guardian Akrid. They’re not as tough as they look, just aim at the orange core on their legs to take them down. Move forward and you’ll see a huge structure to the right hand side of the bridge. There’s a VS Grenade launcher there and a point that you need to deactivate in order to progress. Akrid Sentries will now appear. From this high position you’re in a good place to take them down with the grenade launcher. Now move across the bridge.  Datapost 2 is just over the bridge and datapost 2 is on Eastern cliff edge.  Move directly NW to another deactivation point, you’ll see multi-seat VS that you can jump into right next to this point. A large Akrid will lunge at you out of the blue. There’s only one of him and four of you so you should make light work of him, especially if you used the VS Suit. When you deactivate this point and move forward you’ll face the toughest enemy yet, we don’t it’s name but we’ll name it Spider Tank for now. It has a long range weapon which can hit you if you stand right back. If you move in close you’ll get slaughtered. There’s a T-Eng Regenerator on the bridge that you’ve just crossed so this is a good time to top up; you don’t want to be restarting the whole chapter at this point.

If you move to the right of the deactivation point and drop down by the sea you’ll see a rocket pod and a really powerful VS Suit. If you target the Spider Tank with your new weapon it fires projectiles into the air and then they rain down on your target. This will deliver some good damage but the fight is still far from over.  We found ourselves having to back track to head back to the bridge to get more T-Eng, and to stock up on better weapons. Go for Rocket Launchers, Pile Bunkers and Grenade Launchers.  You can also try and flank the mechanical beast. If you head into the sea and around you’ll get up close to him. If he spots you however he’ll make short work of killing you. You really need your team-mates to provide a diversion. Just keep topping up your ammo, topping up your T-Eng and trying to stay as much as possible out of the firing line. Do that and you should be succesful.

Move forward and you should see the next datapost and the next deactivation point in front of you. There’s another datapost inside the facility in front of you. You can move around the right hand side or grapple over. There’s some more VS Suits to contend with and ground troops, but after the immense battle that you’ve just faced these should now provide no problem. You’ll have to defeat a sentry to move onto the next area. It has an orange tail, and you know that means? Shoot at it!

Chapter complete.
