In Chapter 3 you’ll take on plenty of heavily armed enemies and one gigantic sand-dwelling Akrid. Check out our walkthrough for some helpful tips and strategies to get through the hardest mission that you’ve faced so far.
One of things that makes Chapter 3 quite difficult is some of the dodgy camera angles that you have to face. If you’re playing with three friendly AI rather than human team-mates you’ll also have to contend with colleagues that don’t actually do an awful lot to help you out. You’ll have to do all the hard work, which makes killing the end of level boss really difficult.
In area 1 you’re confined to small part of the train and two carraiges. The train is on the move and on the track opposite you is a train also speeding past full of enemies that you have to take out.
AREA 1
Objectives
1) Don’t die
2) Take out the cannons.
If you drop down and move immediately into the first carraige you’ll be able to activate the only data post in this area. There’s loads of weapons here, rocket launchers, rifles, machine guns, disc grenades and more, plus some battle armour that is worth putting on. If you move West out this carraige and jump to the next carraige you’ll find a T-Eng Regenerator so it’s a good opportunity to top up. The train opposite is faster than yours so just when you’ve killed some of the enemies on one carraige a new lot will arrive. Pay special attention to the two cannons on top of the train. They’ll be firing cannons at you. Use rocket launchers to take them out as soon as possible, because if you die in this area it’s most likely to be from those. You won’t see the two cannons straight away they’ll appear as the enemy train moves forward. Machine guns are pretty useless on this area, you’re better off using the Rifles range to take out the enemies on top of the opposite train.
You’ll also have to attend with a helcicopter, which is actually a VS Suit (which you’ll be able to fly later on.) The helicopter will attack your train from the opposite side that you’re shooting the enemy from. A few rocket launchers will sort it out. Just keep fending off the enemies on the train opposite until a cut-scene kicks in. Prepare yourself for a context sensitive action (it varies each time you play the section) to avoid a missile. Onto Area 2.
AREA 2
Objectives
1) Get to the front of the train
2) Activate 3 data posts
There are two trains in this section once again, the one that you start on and one running down the track on your right. You can grapple between the two and you’ll have to find all the data posts. Enemies will attack you from in front, on the rooftops of the train or in the carraiges. Enemies sport a wide range of weapons in this area. Get ready for rifles, machine guns, grenades, and even a helicopter. The first data post is on the train on the right so grapple over there. As you move out of that carraige you’ll see a VS Suit that you can use equipped Rocket Launchers. On that right hand train, about half way down you’ll come across a canon that will be shooting at you. It’s worth saving the rockets to blow this up. As soon as you leave the area after activating the first datapost a troop transporting helicopter drops some reinforcements on the rooftops of the carraiges in front. Machine guns or shotguns are more than to contend with their threat. The second data post is on the left hand train. If you stick to the right hand train and keep an eye out to your left you can’t miss it. If you’ve stayed on the left hand train after you activated the second data post and are making your way through the carraiges you’ll come across a VS Suited enemy. Rocket launchers will see him off quickly, or using disc grenades.
Keep following the carraiges down on the left hand side and you’ll see a VS Suit that resembles a helicopter! It’s guarded but you can snipe the guards easily enough or take them down with machine gun fire. You’re approaching the end of the train. The final datapost is in the final carraige on the left hand side of the train. When you activate that you’ve completed the area. You’ll get a chance to use the VS Suit helicopter in a minute.
AREA 3
Objectives
1) Kill the Cat G Akrid while ensuring it doesn’t destroy your train
Throughout this battle you’ll see a blue and a red bar at the bottom of the screen. The giant akrid appears in front and on either side of the train and will ram himself into it which sets part of the train on fire. This will damage your train and you’ll see the red bar at the bottom begin to deplete. If the red bar depletes completely it’s mission over and you’ll have to start again right from the beginning of the whole chapter. The blue bar represents the coolant level. You need to keep the coolant topped up. At times during the battle you’ll see the train on fire and the coolant level dropping. You need to go into the room underneath the cannon. It’s through the corridor straight ahead from where the VS Helicopter is. Here you’ll find T-Eng Regenerators, but on the wall either side you’ll see two panels. If you move up close you’ll get the prompt to tap your button. The prompt will disappear and the fire will vanish once you’ve topped up. You may have to dash over to the other side of the room to top up the other coolant system. If you’ve chosen to play with computer AI on your team, they won’t top up the coolant for you.
The second thing to remember during this battle is to load the railway gun. You’ll see cartridges of Cobalt littered around the train. Pick one up to the roof where you see the huge canon. If you move along back from its base, you’ll come across an area where you can load the cobalt. You can only load three cartridges at a time. If you have computer AI on your side they will load Cobalt for you but sometimes they’re quite slow at doing so, so you may need to do it yourself. If you’re playing with friends, communication is the key here. It’s worth having someone permanently in the Coolant system room topping it up, one person dedicated to loading Cobalt, one guy using the canon and another guy perhaps using the VS Suit Helicopter to aim at the Akrid’s orange core, or running around on the top deck shooting at the smaller Akrid that are thrown from the big guy.
The Akrid you take on has round orange core down the side of his body which you need to aim for. You’ll need to use the canon (Rail Gun). You can enter it at it’s base by pressing “O” or “B”. It moves really slowly. The best tactic we found was either getting one of our human team-mates with a headset to tell us which side of the train the Akrid was so we could move the gun in that direction, or hopping in and out of the cannon seat to see where it is and then quickly jumping back in and moving to that position. It’s a real juggling act if you are playing solo and with computer AI,because you’ll have to rush to the coolant room, load shells and jump in the canon seat. Shoot at the orange core and you’ll get a First Strike. After this he’ll spurt out more small Akrid that flood your train but are easy to dispose of with machine gun fire. After destroying the projectiles and more shooting at the core spots on the back of the Akrid with the canon, you’ll get the message one more shot!
It’s worth jumping out of the canon here if playing solo, or getting a team-mate to tell you where and when the Akrid opens its mouth. When it does, blast it and it’ll die. End of the episode!
Remember there are quite a few dataposts around. They’re worth activating because they’ll raise your battle guage by 500. If you’re playing solo though, you’re far better just concentrating on destroying the Akrid before it smashes your train to pieces.

I thank you for your help. I understand your instructions but on my own it is virtually impossible to complete.
Are there any cheats you know of that would help my predicament?
Thanking you in anticipation.
I used the shields a lot to stop the big guns not kill me and jumped back and forth between trains. I beat it solo but it took awhile, patience is key here.
I love how no matter where I am INSIDE the train, the rocket launchers can hit me and succesfully knock me off of the train.
retarded akrid keeps blowing up my train i was SOOOOOOOO close to killing it then that a**hole just ate my train im so pissed >:<
any tips on how to kill akrid FAST in single player
Oh and the Walkthrough lied it the red bar is NOT your train’s heath it’s the Akrid’s. So for all of you who get worried when the red bar is almost empty that just means that you’re about to kill it, It will bring it’s ugly mouth behind the train for the last time to finish you.Turn the gun all the way around until you can see the glowing core then you open fire.It will say “BULLSEYE” when you kill it.If you look behind (this is to make sure its dead) you can see the Akrid bleeding that orange stuff and sinking into the sand that will mean it’s dead.Get a lil emotional do some poses.A little while later the cutscene will come and indicate you beat the chapter tell me if this was any help -Mike AKRID KILLER
Oh and you gotta work fast or it will eat your train (during the finisher)
i hate when your inside and a rocket comes out of know where and knonks u of a tran
Thanks for the guide!! I’m going nuts over this episode which I’ve been repeating for countless times. The rail gun’s rotation speed is slow as snail.
this level has made me hate this game its so frustrating cant believe how hard this feckin worm is too destroy! i never gues the corecct side to shoot it and once ive fecked around with the gun its smashin my train to bits! also aswell another thing which is annoying when i try to charge the shells up it always says unsuccesful wht the hell is this all about!! hardest boss ever i ‘m saying
level blows, quit playing at this point if you die you have to restart the episode, this level ruined the game!
You are just a bunch of Dumbasses who think they know the game I beat that level it just took a while but if you’re calm you can win and if you dont
Bitch about it you while make it plus stop complaning and just stop playingthe game and shut the hell and stop fucking complaining
so hard i cant beat it my gun is always pointin the wrong way stupid worm thing
For those of you annoyed by the rotation speed, along the side of the gun there are panels that will rotate the cannon quickly to the corresponding side. You have to exit the cannon to operate them though
@Nate. Uh no. You see, I like many others, have lives besides playing video games. I want to get in, beat the level quickly and move on. I DONT care about personal acheivements and I LOVE games with cheatcodes like “invinciblity” so I can destroy everything in my path with NO challenge whatsover, get to see all the cool chapters and monsters, finish the game and move on to the next game. Too few developers put cheatcodes in their games and it pisses me off. If I’ve spent my money on their crappy game I should be able to play it any way I damn well please. They’ve already made their money off me. Jackass.
And making us replay an entire level because we didn’t beat the boss is unfuckingforgivable. What, are these Atari 2600 games or something? Ridiculous. Thank god for gamefly. If I had actually bought LP2 I’d probably fly to japan just to shove the disc up the Capcom developer’s collective asses.
my episode 3 isn’t working
it always restarts givin me a Fatal error…
“C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\LOST PLANET 2\nativePC\arcLp2Xml\autoArc\uAkC7.arc 2″
i’m missing those files…
can someone help me???
THE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH Lost planet 2 is YOU CAN’T SAVE THEN LOAD EACH MISSION,you can only save and load each episode that consists of the 3 or 4 missions. Meaning after you gave it your all beating the first 2 missions and mission 3 is a very hard boss, by the time you learn how to beat it you loose all your lives and have to restart the WHOLE episode/chaptor all over again. THAT IS WHY a save option per mission was needed ESPECIALLY WHEN PLAYING WITH NO AI and all yourself only.
I MADE EDITS-
