Following the launch of our complete walkthrough of Lost Planet 2, we’ve mustered together some essential tips that will help to keep you alive across the Akrid-infested planet of EDN III.
Destroy all spawn pods as a priority
Throughout Lost Planet 2 you’ll encounter spawn pods, Akrid breeding grounds. Some are nestled on the side of cliff faces or on walls but others will manifest out of nowhere and Akrid will spill out. In a area where face Akrid look around carefully for spawn pods. Get rid of these first, a rocket will destroy them easily but if you all focus on them with machine gun fire they’ll soon disappear too. Once destroyed you’ll only have to kill the Akrid which were currently in that area already. If you don’t take the spawn pods out first more Akrid will arrive and you may get over-whelmed.
Activate as many data posts as possible even if it’s not part of the objective
Activating data posts are often part of the current objective, but there are also plenty of missions where you don’t need to activate them to progress. Data posts have great value to you and can keep you alive. Activating them will show up enemies on the map. The larger red marks represent larger enemies. This means you can then prepare yourself before you move forward. Data posts also add +500 to your battle gauge which mean the difference between life and death. Data posts light up the area on the mini-map making it easy to see which you route you need to take. Finally, data posts act as a respawn point. If you die, you’ll then be able to choose which data post you spawn at. This may give you a tactical advantage over your enemy, as well as preventing the need to back track over ground you’ve already covered.
Focus on one enemy VS Suit at a time, or split into two groups of two
You’ll face some strong and powerful VS Suited enemies. If there are two of the weaker VS Suits attacking you it’s wise to split into two groups of two and allocate yourself an enemy each. As the old adage goes, two heads are better than one. When facing the heavily armed and protected VS Suits such as the battle tank, it’s wise if all four of your concentrate solely on this enemy until it is eliminated. Stronger VS Suits can damage you heavily, so you want them out of the way as soon as possible.
Eliminate turrets as soon as you can
Mounted turrets and manned turrets can be a real nuisance. You might have a wave of enemies in the area that you’re fighting against and turrets that constantly chip at your health. It’s always worth taking turrets out first; it doesn’t take much to destroy them. Don’t waste your rocket launchers on the turrets that are attached to ceilings, try and get close out of the line of fire and then shoot them down with your machine gun. A well placed grenade can also take out multiple small turrets out at the same time. The manned turrets are tougher to destroy, use a disc grenade, gum grenade or a rocket launcher to take them down quickly.
Always pick up ammo
We’ve learnt this lesson the hard way. Each Chapter consists of a number of areas, but you’ll take with you all the ammo and weapons from the previous area so when you see the red glowing exit which indicates the end of an area, it’s worth surveying the current location for ammo and weapons. In the later chapters ammo becomes scarcer to find. Even if you’re just running around with your machine, pick up more machine gun ammo whenever you see it on the floor. It’s easy to just walk on by, but you may regret it if you do.
