LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 Tips

Published on July 1st, 2010

Just beginning your journey around Hogwarts? Check out our beginner’s guide which gives you tips on things that you should look out for on your travels.

Though you have plenty of opportunity to wander around the house exploring you only need to follow the see-through ghost blocks that you’ll see in every area in order to progress in the campaign. These dots will lead you to the next significant task.

Right from the start make a visual note of tasks that you can’t carry out right now. As you progress you’ll unlock more spells and be able to back track on yourself to complete these areas. For example: Hagrid is strong so he can pull levers and chains, but Harry can too once he gets access to a strength spell. You’ll be able to access areas in Free Play mode once you’ve completed them in the story.

Use Ron’s Rat, Scabbers, to access drainpipes to gain extra and open up access to new areas.

Cast spells on paintings. You’ll either receive studs or the ghostly figures will help you solve a puzzle.

You solve the bookcase puzzles just like a game of “Simple Simon.” Just follow the pattern given.

Look out for special Red and Gold bricks. Red Bricks allow you to unlock extras in Diagon Alley, whereas Gold Bricks can be used in the Builder to make your own creations.

If you can’t get through an area and can’t work out what you need to do cycle through the characters – they all possess different skills. Then cycle through their spells one at a time and cast them around the area.

The invisibility cloak allows you to sneak past prefects to access new areas!

Blue studs are worth the most – 1000 points. Silver is worth 10 and Gold is worth 100. Grab Blue studs as a priority.

You need to pour a variety of ingredients into black cauldrons (usually three ingredients.) You’ll see what’s needed because their icons will be hovering over the pot. Some are very well hidden, but they’ll all be in that area where the cauldron is. Cast spells at objects at random and you’ll be surprised where they’ll turn up.

Look out for Crest pieces! If you gather four on each level you’ll unlock a Gold brick.

We’ll be adding to our LEGO guide over the coming weeks so be sure to check out the main Harry Potter page for more information.

Actually there are purple studs too, I think their value are 10.000 points. Not quite sure about the value though, I just know they are more worth than blues.

year 4 level one once your in the room with the big snake, how do u get the third green key out of its mouth?!? anyone help!!!

    3. Posted by josh on July 13th, 2010, 04:19 [Reply]

@ Ashley. to get the third green key you have to use the goblin. you can find him in level one. freeplay(when you first start) there will be three treasure chests and each of them have a silver lock on them. they are scattered aroud all over the bank. the chest GRIPHOOK is in is the one by the safes.(you have to have a spell. its the orange one.. not certain what its name is) to brake the lock. once you break the lock there will be a goblin character named GRIPHOOK. you have to use him to open the lock on the bottom of the snake to get the third key. Plus a little money tip. if you want more money then you get all the extras( exp. score x10). then you go to the options menu and select extras and turn on all the score multiplyers. i have around 100,000,000 and counting. so money is not a problem for you if you do this.

Love this game, but I am completely stuck on Year 4, rooftops. I am where the dragon is breathing down on me & I’m in a little lower section off of the main roof. I just obtained one of those little pentagram things and transformed a pile of boards into a small bridge. The problem is when i get to the other small top, there is no where to go. I cant get back up to the main rooftop either. HELP! Thank you!

      Hi!
How I can get to the last level, in year 4?
I’m stuck in the stairs. This is hard to explain, but I can’t get to top floor. (Or upper layer I’m not sure what is the correct term…)
But anyway, I have tried to cast a spell to the paint, but it doesn’t reach me in. What I need to do?
Sorry about my bad english, but hope you understood.
And the floor, where I’m stuck, is near the Masons room.

I can’t seem to find Wiseacres Wizarding Equipment. What level do you access it in, and where and how do you get in the shop? Thanks.

I am 199/200 gold bricks, and 49/50 students in peril.
Looked through plenty of guides to find the last 1, but it seems as if i have got them all.
Did anyone else have major trouble finding these last 2?
