Valve’s DLC for their infected slaying sequel just keeps coming, but even for more experienced players ‘The Passing’ can prove a bit hostile. So we’ve put together five helpful tips to get you through some of the campaign’s more troubling spots:
Keep you eyes out for the ‘Fallen Survivor’:
‘The Passing’ packs another special infected for players to keep an eye on and this time he’s bringing gifts. This uncommon breed is like a veritable picnic basket and when killed he’ll drop a variety of goodies including health packs, incendiary ammo, pills, Molotov Cocktails and pipe bombs.
Introducing the M-60:
The M60 machine gun is only one of the new pieces of kit this campaign features ,but it packs a punch no other weapon can muster. As soon as you see it lying around in one of many random drop points, pick it up and save it for when a Tank or large wave of infected comes along, because this baby can cut anything down in seconds. As long as you stay crouched and fire in short bursts, you can’t go wrong.
Stick Together and Move Quickly:
This strategy is true in this expansion more so than any other, as there’s plenty of points for Jockeys to take you down the wrong path, or Smokers to pin you down for a long time. This advice is particularly important for the campaign’s second chapter, where players are forced down a long, dark sewer to get to the next safe room. It’s absolutely imperative that teams stay together during this point as it’s easy to get separated, especially with the constant waves of infected coming at you.
Save Special Ammo for Bosses:
This episode includes two different sets of special ammo – explosive and incendiary. Whenever you spot the small metallic caches pick them up and save them for either the sewer level or when a tank is on its way. They take a few seconds to deploy on the ground, so pick your moment carefully. Each member can only pick up 30 rounds each, but when utilised together the extra fire power can make a huge difference.
The 2-2 Formation:
The finale of ‘The Passing’ requires players to find canisters scattered throughout the final map in order to power the generator, enabling a barricade to lift so that survivors can get in their car and drive over the bridge. It’s very similar to the dramatic ending of the ‘Dead Centre’ and similar rules apply. Teams should stay together, and go for the clusters of canisters together – two carrying cans and others looking out for infected. Pour the petrol into the generator as soon as you get a chance, don’t stockpile them nearby as one stray bullet and they’ll ignite. Try and get the cannisters furthest away from the generator first, as the A.I director only dials up the carnage after a few safely deployed units. The less distance a group needs to travel towards the end of the finale the easier it will be.
