Objective
Enter the spider tomb
At the start of the level you’ll unlock a new secondary weapon, the assault rifle. Check out the blue ammo metre at the bottom left hand corner of your screen. If your ammo runs out the metre will deplete and you’ll automatically switch to your primary weapon. It’s worth keeping an eye on the metre and using your more powerful weapons only against the tougher monsters.
Head immediately down the stairs from where you spawned. You’ll be prompted to “Explore the temple grounds and find the entrance to the spider tomb.” You’ll also get a level map. Shortly you’ll have to search for two sun discs. The level map comes in extremely handy as it shows you that they are based on the West and North sides of the temple grounds. As soon as you hit the bottom of the steps, take an immediate right (Lara’s viewpoint) onto the cliff side where you’ll see a tree nestling near to the edge. You’ll find the first red skull just in front of the tree. Move back to the steps and face forward. You want to explore the left hand (west) side from Lara’s viewpoint. You’ll come across lobster type creatures that you’ll have to kill and plenty of gems that will bring you closer to the score challenges. In this confined area, look out for the truck and a small raised platform that carries the second red skull. This is the first of many trucks that you’ll need to destroy to complete the specific reward challenge. Just shoot at the truck with your pistols or assault rifle.
As you explore and continue to press forward you’ll automatically trigger a cut-scene. “Vasco’s men are dead, slaughtered by those creatures,” says Lara. You’re now going to face giant ogres that shoot a heat-seeking at you causing a lot of damage. There’s also some lobster type creatures coming your way. Go for the big guys first. There’s plenty of cover behind stone pillars here so use it if you need it while using your assault rifle to blast away. Keep facing your enemy and move backwards so they can’t get near you. Your dodge move will also keep you out of the way of the heat-seeking blasts. On the main path toward the broken bridge you’ll see more trucks to destroy, so blow them to pieces.
Now head across the bridge. Just as you’re about to reach the broken part of the bridge you’ll be attacked by two ogres. Just keep your distance and blast away before jumping down. You need to embed a spear into the wall here to be able to climb up onto the new section of the bridge. On the other side keep an eye out to your right. There’s a stone statue of a head with the third red skull on top. Just embed a spear into it and hop up to grab it. Keep moving forward until you see the entrance to the spider tomb.
Objective
Locate the Sun Discs from the missing dais
To enter the tomb you need to find the sun dics. Check your map now for the location of the first disc on the West side of the map.
Locate the first Sun Disc
Head directly West and you’ll come across a group of stone pillars all at different heights. There’s a power-up on the highest pillar that you can reach by jumping on them in order of size. If you get stuck, use your spear to jump on to gain height. There’s a health shrine right next to the pillars if you need a boost. Move North of the shrine and drop down. In this clearing there are a couple of trucks that you can blow up. If you time it right you can blow them up just as the huge ogre is heading your way. There are few enemies to deal with here. Set up a bomb, stand back and catch them in the blast before shooting them down with your assault rifle. Just behind the burning car is a raised platform with some gems on it. Stand on this platform and fire a spear into the rock face on your left. Use it to climb up onto the ledge. Move forward and cross the river. You should now see the fourth red skull hovering above a stone pillar. Stand on the small pillar nearby and fire a spear at the tall pillar. You should now be able to climb up to get the skull.
Go back to where you came from where the trucks are burning. Head forward across the stone bridge and down the steps. As soon as you get to the part where the bridge is broken, take a look to your left and you’ll see the missing sun dial. Before you get it though, drop down onto the next level. Explore this small area and you’ll find ammo and health upgrades, plus a hidden Challenge Tomb. You’ll face some opposition outside of the tomb so keep on your guard, drop a bomb, move back and detonate, before finishing them with your assault rifle. You’ll find the fifth red skull on the roof of this Challenge Tomb. You can get it by placing a spear anywhere on the perimeter and climbing up. Enter the tomb.
Challenge Tomb 3
It’s quite dark in this tomb so crank up the brightness in the main menu if you’re struggling to see. You simply need to get to the top of the stone structure and grab the clay owl. To do this you can use the stairs going into the tomb to place spears in the structure at different levels. Jump on your spears and climb to the top. You should be able to do this with just two spears.
When you come out of the tomb, head toward the sun dial that you saw earlier. Keep to this lower level and you can hop up onto the platform using a spear and then embed another spear in the wall so that you can grab the sundial.
Find the second missing sun disc
Grapple across the gap to wall run and then explore this area on the upper level. You’ll gain plenty of points and gems here for killing the lizards, including the giant demon lizard that may catch you by surprise. Kill him and you’ll complete a reward challenge. Keep on the back foot and move away from him while shooting, drop bombs in his path to weaken him. This is also an ideal time to get the achievement – Three Birds With One Stone. Lizards die with one blast from a bomb, so place it wisely, move back, and kaboom!
Head back to where you originally came from, right in front of the entrance to the spider tomb. If you check the map you can see that the second disc is directly north of the tomb. Head around the tomb until you come to a broken bridge. Just in front of it you’ll see a rolling ball and you’ll be attacked by a variety of enemies. There’s plenty of space here to back up and take them out. Let them come to you. Set down bombs if you need to. Before you approach the bridge, check to the left of it in the water. You’ll see the sixth red skull floating among some rocks! On this same river, head to the very East and you’ll see another seventh red skull under the waterfall. When you do approach the bridge you’ll be prompted with the challenge to cross the river without getting wet. This is what the ball is for. This isn’t easy, but you should be able to do it with practice. Simply throw the ball into the water and jump on it. You need to keep on the ball until you think you can make the jump to the other side. Alternatively, if you want an easy way. Simply head to the far East side of the river where you’ll find stepping stones to get across.
When you get across the river you’ve got two sets of steps in front of you. Take the left hand route until you come to the bridge. The bridge will collapse and you’ll have to leap over gaps to avoid getting killed. This is the sequence you need to follow: jump right, jump forward, jump left, jump forward. As you come off the bridge, look out for the trucks to your right (NorthEast.) Destroy them to get closer toward achieving a reward objective and then move to the right of this area where you’ll see more trucks. Don’t shoot at them just yet! Edge forward and enemies will spawn and attack. Blow up the trucks when enemies move close to them and then pick up the eighth red skull. There are med-packs in this area so use them if need be. You can stay well back here and pick enemies off one a time before moving forward and entering the Challenge Tomb.
Challenge Tomb 4
This is one of the easier challenge tombs. There are two rolling balls and a room full of spikes. When you move the balls onto the moveable platforms a set of spikes will disappear. Simply keep placing them on the platforms until you’ve made your way across to pick up the artefact, the Arrow of Tezcatlipoca.
Back to where you came from and up the next flight of steps. You’ll see the sun disc briefly before it’s locked away behind some sturdy metal gates. There’s a moveable platform just in front of the gates that opens the door but you need to keep it open. To do this place a bomb by the stone hand to the right of the gate, move to the platform that opens the doors and detonate the bomb. You’re now free to get the second disc. Before you move through the open gates check out the ammo cache. These are scattered around levels and allow you to totally replenish your supplies before moving on. You’ll also gain access to a shotgun here, which is ideal for taking out enemies at close range. Equip it and get ready to use it in the next section.
As you move through the wooden gates embrace yourself for an onslaught of enemy activity. You can move back up the steps to give yourself a good vantage point over your enemy, or you can get up close with your shotgun. Don’t miss the truck in this area! Move across the stone bridge and jump down onto the wooden bridge. You can gain an ammo upgrade at the bottom of the first flight of stairs by firing a spear into the stone wall and climbing up to grab the token. Keep pressing forward until you meet the pit of spikes. Shoot a spear into the wood on the right and jump across. On the level above this, which you can access by firing a spear into the wall, you’ll find the Stone Feather artefact. As you move down the next small flight of steps blow up the truck! Move across the bridge, taking out the two large ogres, and down the steps. There’s a health shrine here and you’ll be attacked by lizards so stay close to the shrine to keep topped up on health. Move down the stone ramp into the river. You’ll see the ninth red skull in the river. When you grab it you’ll be attacked. Lay down a grenade, back up and detonate it when enemies attack.
You’ll find a red skull on the roof of the stone building to your left. Fire spears into the outside of the building to get onto the roof. This should be your tenth red skull and you’ll pick up the Golden Sceptor of Huitzilopochtli as a reward. Head into the building. Next to the impact switch is a low wall. Climb on it and then shoot a spear into the wall. Now simply jump over the spiky railings to continue and keep pressing forward until you reach the room with the piece of sun disc trapped in a cage. First up, get the rolling ball onto the ground by jumping from the lower to the higher stone structure. Now place the ball in front of where the arrows are firing. This will block the path so that you can raise the cage by pulling the gold lever. Now go and grab it!
Return the sun discs to the spider’s tomb
Head back to the tomb. If you’re still shy of the 300,000 points needed to complete all the score challenges it’s worth tackling all the enemies that you’ll face as you make your way back. If not, there’s no point. Just race back to the tomb. Be careful though! As you move up the steps you’ll be attacked by dozens of spiders. Just equip your assault rifle and blast them away. Move into the tomb through the doorway and the level is complete!
Now you know where to find the sun discs, play the level again to complete the “Open the spider tomb in five mins or less” achievement. You’ll need to bypass most of the enemies to beat the time.

Can’t get the second sun disc! Even before looking for a walkthrough, I tried the bomb to raise the stone hand. When it comes down on the open metal gate, it rests on top. I thought this would hold the gate open, but as soon as I step off the platform switch, the gate closes and the hand falls.
