Our complete boss battle guide to Kingdom Hearts Re:coded continues. In this section, we cover the third boss battle against Pete. Check out these tips for defeating him.
Pete is a portly, black furred, anthropomorphized cat (often confused for a dog). Like Mickey, he wears a heavily modified version of his usual outfit in the modern cartoons; in Pete’s case, suspenders and a shirt. He wears what seems to be armor colored in shades of blue and purple overtop a red, short-sleeved shirt with a vertical pink stripe descending from the neck.
Get close to Pete and he’ll run at you with his fists in temper, but he only seems to do this very early on in the fight. He’ll also throw an exploding bowling ball at you which will immobilize you for a few seconds if you’re not careful. Also, watch out for Damage Blocks and some sort of small exposives that appear like firecrackers. The blocks generally land in the middle of the arena, so keep to the outskirts and circle around them to get close to Pete, or just get a clear pathway so you can shoot at him from a distance. A long range command, such as the Triple Firaga is an excellent command for attacking him from afar, but it has a lengthy cooldown period, so back it up with close-up combos when you get the opportunity.
You can knock Pete’s health down by guarding against the bowling ball attack, which will fly back in his face. He’ll get stunned temporarily allowing you to get up close and give him a beating. When he throws the small explosives in the air, you can avoid them by either rushing forward and moving underneath them, or standing right back on the outskirts of the arena. If you do rush forward, you can safely attack Pete from fairly close range before he disappears and warps.
In the second phase of attacks, Pete is stronger. He summons thunder and lighting, which follows you around the room. Just keep moving away from the yellow circle. If you get caught inside you’ll be struck. He’ll then throw the bowling ball at you numerous times. This time there’s no damage blocks to worry about, so whack them back at him to knock him out and then get close to pummel him with combos. The process will repeat, with the new Thunder power thrown in. You should have all the knowledge you need to keep picking away at Pete.
