A beginner's guide to Trials Evolution

A beginner's guide to Trials EvolutionHumiliating your friends with a record-shattering time is all about speed, right? Wrong. As the old saying goes, slow and steady wins the race.

Here are our top hints and tips to help you get started in the world of Trials Evolution:

Don’t keep your finger on the accelerator

It might seem like an obvious one, but you’d be surprised by the amount of people who think success in Trials is purely based on speed. Be careful on when you choose to use the accelerator – if you don’t need the height, for example, there’s no point building up speed just prior to a jump: you’ll only waste valuable time flying through the air.

Can’t get gold? Come back later

You’ll need to earn as many medals as possible to progress, with a maximum of three available to be earned on each event. But if you can’t hit the gold medal on your first or second attempt, don’t panic. You can return to an event later on once you’ve unlocked a more powerful bike, which should help hitting those lap times much easier.

If you’re going for gold, avoid the B button

Another obvious one, but again something many seem to forget. If you’re going for gold you’re going to need to nail a perfect run, which means no respawning at checkpoints. If you crash, restart the event by pressing the Back button and try again.

Wheelies can help with acceleration

It’s simple physics really, but you’ll be able to accelerate faster by creating less drag on the bike. Try quickly flicking the left stick left and right at the starting line. If you time it perfectly, you’ll be able to accelerate even faster off of the starting line.

Master the bunny hop

The bunny hop can often be used to get you out of a tight squeeze. If you can’t seem to get over an object, lean forward, apply some gas, then quickly lean back and forth again. It’ll take some practice, but once you’ve mastered the art of the bunny hop, it’ll often help you nail those times.

Practice makes perfect

Trials is all about physics and momentum, and while there’s no set way to approach most tracks, practising when to lean, accelerate, brake will tend to result in faster times. If you’re new to the world of Trials it’ll take a fair bit of patience to get used to, but once you’ve got the mechanics down, Evolution will soon become one of the most rewarding experiences on XBLA.
