Now you are getting close to the end, boss battles are getting a lot tougher. The Proudclad is relentless with its attacks, and if you are not careful you’ll be taken out within the first 3 minutes. This time you’ll be concentrating on defence so follow the jump for a full guide on beating The Proudclad.
The best way to take down The Proudclad is to do it slowly. Before heading into the battle switch your team to Lightning, Sazh and Vanille. It is vital that Vanille’s Medic skill is the highest level possible. Lightning must have at least level 3 Medic and Sazh must have also developed his Synergist above level 3.
Set up your Paradigms like this:
- Sazh: Synergist / Vanille: Medic / Lightning: Medic
- Sazh: Ravager / Vanille: Ravager / Lightning: Ravager
- Sazh: Ravager / Vanille: Ravager / Lightning: Commando
- Sazh: Synergist / Vanille: Ravager / Lightning: Ravager
- Sazh: Ravager / Vanille: Medic / Lightning: Ravager
Start off with healing and buffing your party. If you have any shrouds then go ahead and use them. Switch to Rav/Rav/Commando and deal damage until the Proudclad goes into stagger.
Once the boss is in stagger, switch to Rav/Rav/Rav and deal as much damage as you can. Keep an eye on your health once the stagger meter goes about half way. I’d advise switching to Rav/Rav/Medic if the parties health is not pretty much full. Then, when the stagger meter is about to deplete, switch to Med/Med/Synergist and constantly heal over and over. The Proudclad will use Retaliatory Strike which deals out constant damage for about a minute or two. Just keep healing until the barrage of attacks slows down.
From here just rinse and repeat. Keeping getting the Proudclad into stagger and then healing up when the attacks come in.
This battle can range from 8 to 20 minutes depending on your team. Another option is that if you level up enough to teach Fang the medic ability then the battle will go a lot faster due to the amount of damage you can dish out.

I fund out that it is easier Just not to Stagger him till he is about dead it take some time but I did it like this Med/Syn/Ray till all buffed then Ray/Ray/Com till he was at 145 then back to Med/Syn/Ray cuz only one person can not stagger him (Team Vanille Sazh and Lightning) got him down in about 10mins
Well what about the mega attacks where he shoots the crud out of you? I don’t know what to do! I die even before I’ve made an inch dent in his HP bar! It’s not making me happy.
Oh, and Brent, my team is Vanille, Sazh and Lightning and I’m staggering him way faster than I want to because right after I stagger him he deals out those nasty assaults.
Easiest way to do this,
(i had all characters three main classes at lvl4 at least)
Sazh, Lightning and Hope.
at the start buff the shit out of your party with two syns sazh and hope and heal with lightning, when fully buffed hit him hard with Relentless assault, haste will make this alot easier and faster,
just as stagger is about to stop switch too Double medic and syn heal until Retaliatory Strike is over, If you wanna play it safe, only attack during defensive air, otherwise it might be hard to stagger and keep your health full.
ALWAYS KEEP HEALTH ABOVE HALF.
and you should be able to do it, with atleast three stars. With this set up fight took me 6 minutes.
Recommend Tireless Charge (Com/Com/Med) over tri-ravager while he’s staggered. He halves elemental damage so you want the non-elemental commando damage anyway and keeping yourself topped off for the first part of Retaliatory Strike is key.
He is poopy head.
just beat him. syn/com/med, rav/com/rav, syn/med/med, rav/med/med.
be aggressive with the rav/com/rav. I loaded fortisol and ethersol at the beginning. Be patient when he is in ariel mode. Use renew halfway through the retaliatory strikes. an mix in some potions from the items list. I beat him about 8 minutes this way. after trying for 2 hours lol
and yes, he is poopy head… honestly the hardest boss thus far IMO
I just tried a novel approach to this fight: I never staggered him. Rather than try to run up huge chains, I figured that since the gigantic damage comes after staggering him… just don’t stagger him. So I spent most of the fight (Light, Sasz, Vanille) in COM/COM/MED and just slowly chipped away at his health. When my buffs ran out, I swapped out to MED/SYN/MED and rebuffed, then went back to COM/COM/MED.
It took a little while, but less time than you’d think, and because I didn’t have any Ravagers in the group, the damage was being applied fairly regularly by Light and Sasz, and the chain accumulated really slowly. When I got him down to about 150k HP, I busted out the COM/RAV/RAV and let him have it. Staggered him and killed him without once getting the Retaliatory Strike. It was only a three-star win, but there simply didn’t appear to be any other way for me to beat him, because no matter when I switched into MED/SYN/MED during the Stagger, he’d wipe the floor with my party. Doing it this way, it was an easy, easy fight.
Thank you Drew that was the best Idea yet! Worked perfectly!
I just beat him first try in around 3 minutes, 5-star battle.
Best team for me was Lightning/Hope/Fang. Used Rav/Syn/Com until all buffed (Hope is Lv. 4 Syn, learned haste by now for me, which was huge), then switched to Rav/Rav/Com until he was at about 145% stagger bar. Switched then to Med/Rav/Com so I could control healing with Lightning while Hope and Fang finished staggering him. Once we were all healed and he was staggered, switched to Com/Med/Com and kicked the crap out of him (Like Drew said, two Coms is better than Ravs because he has resistances to elemental damage). When he went into uber-killing mode, switched to Med/Med/Sen, which kept my characters’ health bars in the green for the duration of the attack. Rinse and repeat, I killed him just as his stagger bar was about to run out the second time.
Drew has given you guys the right idea… if you never stagger him he’s much easier to beat. I got 5-stars with Lightning/Sazh/Fang but I think Sazh could be replaced if you want to use a more reliable healer.
I started in C/Sy/C. You only need to stay in this paradigm until everyone has Haste which isn’t long (This is my only reason for Sazh… he automatically casts Haste as his first spell while Fang and Light start racking up damage)
Then I switched to C/C/C which won’t build chain bonuses too fast. I switched to M/M/M when I needed to heal quickly but any two medic combo would work if you don’t have medic for all three characters. The fight was over before I knew if and I barely needed to use my medics.
Beat Him in 4:54 (*****)
Party: Hope (leader), Snow, Sazh
Hope Snow Sazh

Started with SYN/COM/SYN once buffed switched to RAV/RAV/RAV. Right before staggering I would switch to MED/COM/RAV and replenish my HP. Then back to RAV/RAV/RAV for the stagger. Then I went COM/COM/COM (yes this involves teaching Hope Commando but just to attack). Would attacked until stagger was low then switched to MED/SEN/SYN. waited out the massive retaliation. Repeated. When after the second stagger my health was low so I summoned Alexander who quickly had Proudclad staggered and defeated. Didn’t even get to go Gestalt
(personal note: I prefer the sentinel over the extra medic because he takes on little damage allow my to have to heal only two characters during the retaliation without sacrficing power throughout the battle)
dont even bother using vanile or sazh there weak i use snow and hope use protection till your all buffed up then stager him with tri-disaster and then smack the shit out of him with aggression snow and lighting will do major damage as he has a normal defence to phisical whereas he has half to all elements if u get low on health switch to combat clinic i got 4 stars on this one but if i didnt play it as safe probs could have got 5
Don’t try this. The tactic doesn’t work. The gun spam the proudclad uses can’t be healed against in such a manner. You will have to have a Sentinel in your team in order to do this boss.
i just did it no sen. i did drews method beat boss in 6min
The No Stagger Trick Kicked the crap outta this boss
If you want to go with the com / com / rav method
I suggest getting a limit breaker
Snow’s sovreign fist / fang’s highwind. These moves reset the stagger bar and deal Massive damage
Contrary to what everyone has here. I used
Lightning, Vanille, and Snow.
Paradigms: Tri-Disaster | Combat Clinic | Cerberus | Relentless Assault | Tireless Charge
I started out on Tri-Disaster and did as much damage as I could, getting his stagger bar almost full but not all the way.
Then I switched to Combat Clinic and healed, until all his staggger bar had went away.
Then I switched to Relentless Assault and started hammering him. Then switched over to Tri-Disaster and staggered him.
Before his stagger bar went away I switched to combat clinic and healed.
Continue to do that until he is done attacking you relentlessly.
When you can, switch over to combat clinic or tri-disaster and continue to attack him. Then heal. And repeat.
P.S. It’s good if you don’t stagger him too many times.
It takes a longer time to beat him without him being staggered but he doesn’t attack you relentlessly if you don’t stagger him.

Took me 9:51 with somewhat underleveled characters & Drew’s strategy.
It’s quite simple, use com, rav, rav to stop the chain gauge dropping real quick, then switch to rav, rav, rav to stagger him, once the stagger has almost finished switch to med, med, med and you are basically invincible until the retaliatory strikes are over. Then rinse and repeat till it’s done.
When I did this fight, I used Light, Fang, and Hope. I buffed up with Protection (MED/SEN/SYN I believe) using Haste, Bravery, Protect, Faith, and Veil. Then I switched to Tireless Charge (COM/COM/MED) and just attacked over and over, until it was time to rebuff. Hope this helps
2:28. yeah im awehme. rick james bitcch
2:28. yeah im awesome. rick james bitcch
People, please realise, he only gets good after you stagger him so dont do it. Just open the battle with lightning fang and hope in com com med and just ride it out. boring i know but it works. make it faster by buffing but you really don’t need to.
i found that he didnt use any of his super attacks if i didnt stagger him so i got him to 120% stagger with rav rav med, (snow, lightning, hope) and then switched to com com med for the rest of the battle and i never hit red or under halfway health – but snow has 5500 hp at this time because diamond and mithril bangle but even without that im sure you would beat him, this guy is an easy battle compared to barthandelus 2.
Thank you Drew for the tip, were couldn’t have done it otherwise.
Just beat it in 2.18 with fang, lightning and hope..
Don’t know if anyone still cares but this battle can be SUPER easy if you use Lightning as a commando, Fang as a sentinal, and hope as a medic. Equip lightning with any weapon (EXCEPT LIONHEART!), make solidarity your active paradigm and when you enter the battle, all you have to do is have lightning attack over and over. Give it about five minutes and you’ve won without ever having to worry about the battle becoming difficult.
25 min, suck it !
