The second Eidolon you come across is Odin. Being a legendary knight means Odin is no push over. This can be quite a tough battle if you haven’t prepared your team. Check out our trick to gaining Odin’s trust lightning fast.
Before you enter this battle you will need to prepare. Odin is pretty tough and doesn’t give you much time to think about what to do. You can go into the option settings in the main menu and change the battle speed to slow if you are really struggling to make quick decisions.
You will need to have a specific Paradigm load-out to make this battle easy and quick. Head into the main menu and select Paradigms. Select Customize and change the top three options to;
- Lightning: Medic / Hope: Synergist
- Lightning: Ravager / Hope: Ravager
- Lightning: Medic / Hope: Medic
Make sure the Medic/Synergist Paradigm is the active one, so when you do enter the battle there is no need to switch. To make it a default Paradigm, head back into the Paradigm/Customize section and press Square/X on the desired load-out.
One last tip before heading into battle is to pre-cast some enhancements on your party with Shrouds. Outside of the menus, tap L1/LB on your controller to bring up the Shroud menu. Select with buffs you’d like and cast them. This will add a glowing effect around your party leader and if you activate a battle while in this glowing state, you enter with all the buffs automatically cast. This is great for tough boss and Eidolon battles!
Now you are ready to face Odin! As the battle starts, keep healing and buffing your characters if you didn’t use a Shroud prior to the battle. This should only take up 2-3 turns as you don’t want to waste too much time protecting yourself. Once buffed, Paradigm shift to Ravager/Ravager and start unleashing magical attacks on Odin. Chaining attacks on Odin will raise his Gestalt meter very quickly.
If Odin uses his shield to guard, keep attacking with magic. As soon as he starts attacking, switch to the Medic/Medic paradigm. Odin hits hard and fast and if you don’t have both Lightning and Hope on healing you will be taken out very quickly. Thankfully, healing each other also raises the Gestalt meter.
Keep switching between each paradigm in accordance to Odin’s attack pattern and you will fill up the meter very quickly. Tap the Square/X button on your controller as soon as the meter fills up and you will now have gained the loyalty of Odin.

Wow. This is accurate. Thanx for givin me a horse!!
Incredible tip. Worked like a charm and made this battle all too easy. I’ll try thinking for myself a bit more next time b4 I google a battle plan. This tip is too good.
woot this was awesome!!! thanks man!!!
wow, incredible guide.i couldnt beat him for days, i got a 5 star with this, i highly reccommend this!!!
wow…..i feel like i cheated a bit…i’m gonna have to stay away from this site on the next few hahah
Wow. This was extremely helpful, I actually can’t believe it. And have you wondered how sometimes when the doom counter is about to run out, and the gestalt gauge is like a little under three quarters suddenly you can press X and you got it?
Nice trip…. First try is done
wow, that guide was unbelievable! it gets odin to GESHALT mode soo quickly! i was happily surprised on how quick my brother got Odin with using this guide, whereas i struggled alot with getting Odin as i tried not to us a guide, how foolish i was haha
Just use ravager and medic and keep casting water. Odin will keep trying to kill the healer and leave lightning to keep casting. You may have to use a potion but you’ll be done in 2 minutes
I was forget about slow mode, normal is tooo fast for me when face Odin first time. he kill me at once. Go try shoud myself first and then use described above. In the other hand, on other site I have read about symbiosis paradigm in first seconds.
Easier solution. Since Lightning is probably more advanced in terms of stats and Magic and has three ATB gauges, have her on Medic and Hope on Ravager and stay that way till you get Odin. Works like a charm.
I suggest slow down battle speed and use “Slash & Burn” Lightning Commando and Hope Ravager, combo with “Double Dose” Both Medic. Switching to Double Dose when they need healing
Dude, i know im the only negitive comment but, i cant use the magic! what do i do! my Lightning cant use healing well D:
Ok wellI have been stuck on this dude for like 3 freakin days. I am just now trying this. So let me try this and see what happends! OMG!!! I JUST BEAT IT! 5 STARS!! Ok it was so hard kinda. took me what 5 min. I had like 37 of doom left! IT WAS AWESOME! THIS WORKS LIKE CRAZY!! THANKS!!!!
Awesome i can finally do lollll
it*
This guide helped, but still it killed my interest in this game. I hope it doesnt happen to anyone else.
FF13 isn’t bad but I’ve been hearing some bad replies about it. One of the most I’ve ran into is how to kill Odin. Now this is for FF13 for XBOX360. I found the best way to defeat Odin is to go back and kill some enemies to raise you CP points so both Lightning and Hope have thunder. Then before you get to Odin put on a shroud make sure you have vigilance and haste. With hope and yourself set as Ravagers you will have Thunder use Libra to find Odin’s weakness Hope/ the A.I. should handle his part. All you need to do is continue using Thunder on your part. I know it isn’t flashy but it fills up Odin’s gestalt gauge. You’ll need a couple of pheonix downs and a couple of potions. You wont need many but it is always a good idea to have a few on hand anyways. With both Hope and Lightning hitting Odin with Thunder the battle shouldn’t last long. I’ve ran across people to tell me to use lightning. Well give this a shot Thunder is a lightning based spell. Sparkstrike will not work! Well it could but will not be as efficient! The reason because it is a physical attack. Use Thunder, no mix of Sarkstrike and Thunder. Just Thunder it isn’t flashy but it gets the job done read the line up top that describes each attack and you will see what I mean. Taking a look over the FF13 manual may help also. The Commando has the higher attack but if you put both Hope and Lightning on Ravager you should be fine as long as both have Thunder in their abilities list.
Awesome man! =) Made it first try after reading this
where do i find odin after i have beaten the game cause i dont have the technique to summon him and i didnt ever fight him that i can remember and i need to get back to him plz help me
@IREAPEIR
You can’t just walk back to it. As you follow the only path the game gives you, you end up at an unavoidable cut-scene. If somehow your game screwed up majorly and skipped it, then there is nothing you can do to get him now.
The easiest thing I found to do was use shrouds and then use rav/rav when his shield is up because it gives large combos which fill his meter quicker. Then when he was attacking use med/med because healing team members makes his meter fill quickly it took maybe a little over a minute to do it this way just make sure your ravs are able to cast thunder for this strategy to work the best.
This strategy doesn’t work. I don’t get it. His bar goes all the way over and just stops.
@ Joshua
When the bar is filled you should press square (Playstation) or X (Xbox).
The guide is fantastic – Odin is defeated in minutes with no potions or PDs required. However I know what Joker means – without a guide Odin is far too hard, with a guide far too easy. FF XIII struggles to feel like a game at times with the fights being the only ‘non-scripted’ part. The fact that to get past the boss fights means you almost have to follow a script takes away the last gaming aspect.
WOAH Target time:26:01 Actual time:2:00
Thanks man for the epic win guide
how come this works for everyone else but not for me?
ive tried everything and yet, i still can’t do it.
Thanks for the help! All I really needed was the set up… then I went and used shrouds and BOOM done. 5 Stars and Odin captured.
What version of the game is this strategy effective in? On my PS3, lol, if I start out the battle healing and buffing, Odin walks right up to me and dual strikes my characters to death, right off the bat–no exceptions. I did so much better just button mashing. I tried this technique 10 times in a row and it resulted in 10 K.O.’s in less than 20 seconds each time. I simply cannot start the battle off buffing, it pisses him off.
I retried it using shrouds and it was a piece of cake, I didn’t even need to use this ‘strategy’. Just use a shroud and press square when his gauge is filled, that’s the real strategy.
Thanks for the tip, worked like a charm. I still had a little trouble and had to improvise a bit but I digress.
Don’t!!!!! Forget to press square when you get him to gestalt mode… I did
It was easy usin doudle dose and 2 ravenger and 1 ravenger with a med so 1 of 3 times you dont get heal so EZ
This is absolutely unbelievable, sir, you made Odin look like a lil’ bitch.
Seriously, thank you.
With your instruction, it was pretty easy
awesome!!! i get 5 star and finish it in 1.27 (min.sec). this is great!!! thanks!!
yes well i use the said strategic maneuvers (except the shroud for idk how to get them i used them all)and died within 5 sec (literally thunder slice slice dead)plz help???
nvm i got it
but it took like 4 min
and 30 secs
This article gave me no help what’s so ever. I have been at it for a day, and still can’t beat Odin. Worse advice ever.
Ha, nvm. I just forgot to push the square button. It suckes after the tutorial goes away. You literally forget.
And @Kim, if you cant defeat Odin with this advice you shouldn’t be playing Final Fantasy 13…it sounds to me like it may be alittle too hard for you. …lolz….Best advice EVA!!!
@Chantelle, if you saw the last post after I made that comment that I was struggling, I had no problem defeating Odin. It was just remembering to push the square button once the Eidolon’s purple gauge is full.
I just wanted to say thanks very much for your advice..:)…It made defeating Odin a piece of cake.
Perfect guide!! It only took me one try and I did it in 2 mins using this. ^_^~
Just found some interisting tips… I’ll try it once I got home… (I’am at work right now…)
