Hecatoncheir doesn’t arrive until much later in the game. Being the last Eidolon to tame, Hecatoncheir is also one of the most difficult. You are left only with Vanille and Fang to prove your worth and this Eidolon isn’t going to make it easy for you. We have you covered though, just follow the steps and you’ll be claiming this impressive quadrupedal mech in no time.
As soon as the battle starts you will need to press start and select retry. This obviously quits out of the battle and sends you back to just before the cut-scene. The reason for this is that when the battle activates a second time the main menu will pop up just before you head in. This gives you chance to make your own paradigms rather than auto-generated ones which are pretty useless.
When the menu pops up set up these paradigms;
- Vanille: Saboteur / Fang: Saboteur
- Vanille: Saboteur / Fang: Sentinal
- Vanille: Medic / Fang: Sentinel
- Vanille: Ravager / Fang: Commando
The de-buffing from dual saboteurs quickly builds up the gestalt meter up. After 2 rounds of casting, switch to Saboteur/Sentinel as Hecatoncheir’s attacks are very unforgiving. As soon as Fang goes into yellow health, paradigm shift to Medic/Sentinel class. The Eidolon goes through stages of attacking and charging.
When Hecatoncheir is charging, switch to Ravager/Commando and cause some damage. The Ravager/Commando and Saboteur/Saboteur boost the gestalt meter pretty efficiently so it is up to you what you use. Just remember to switch back to a Sentinel role when the Eidolon starts to attack again.
Follow the above steps and you will have no trouble in taming Hecatoncheir, the last Eidolon.

wow thanks guys this worked perfectly
and a 5 star rating hand it killed in 2.53 seconds!!
Agreed that worked perfectly!!!
It took me a few trys to get it right but the tip was perfect. Thanks so much! It was a great help. I had no idea how I was going to win this one!
How far should fang and vanille be in the chrystalarium
Great advice – got the 5 stars also in 2:26
Great advice – got the 5 stars in 2:26
I’ve used this strategy, but I still can’t seem to beat it. It just destroys me when I try and heal Fang…
Awesome tips, however I’m finding it kind of difficult beating him. When I die it’s always from either him killing me or Doom running out. So how much HP should Vanille and Fang have? Currently my Vanille and Fang have: 1750/1750.
I’m not that far up with the Crystariam seeing as even the normal monsters (basically the Pulsework Soldiers/Knights) would kick my ass. So gaining CP is difficult because the new stage requires so much! Any tips for that aswell?
Omg Lexi 1750?! at least u could have 2500 of hp in each and since fang is sentinel should have more healt and its easy now to get CP the new monsters are easy to beat and give 2000-5000 per round –.
yeah i mean it was so easy and if you think that was hard just wait
Hey great tip going double saboteur helped me more than com and rav, got 5 stars idk bout time tho, the eid. Was pretty tough even with my chars. At role 4, the dam reducing accessory helps too if u maxed it cause his combo is major if that helps = )
on my chars fang has around 2500 an vanille has 2100-2300 i think but i cant beat hime either cause he does that annoying combo twice in a row without charging or anything or because doom timer runs out
:@
almost as annoying as cid raines
but ill try this stategy an see
Brilliant strategy. It worked for me. I didn’t expect it to be Saboteur that raised the stagger gauge the most, and nothing after using Libra suggested that, so it’s lucky someone out there spread the word.
Worked first time, thanks.
perfect tip and advisor trough the fight thanx!!!!! XD
how far does every chrystalarium go up to
Help Please! Vanielle’s HP 2080/ Fangs 2270. The ATB gauge fills too slowly, and he kills Fang before I get the chance to heal her. Then when I try to use a Phoenix Down on her, he kills me. I need help Ive tried this over 15 times and nothing. The double Sabatour trick helps out alot though.
MAN FINALLY lol… ok.. I’ve tried to do it like… for 2hours now.. srsly.. and couldn’t get it..
Heres a better setup:
SAB/SAB
SAB/COM
SAB/COM
MED/SAB
Start off with SAB/SAB then after one round do sab/com then switch to the next sab/com, then it will be attacking so switch to med/sab. Repeat (Don’t select SAB/SAB though).
I found out that the ATB gauge goes faster once you switch to another setup.
I only have around 1500 hp on both how can i get it up quick?
Just for all you who are having problems, for this to easily work you -SHOULD- have atleast 3000 HP on Vanille, or atleast near to it, I think I had just over 3000 when I did this. Vanille’s medic should be nearing role level 4, and Fang’s saboteur should be nearing role level 4, if it IS role level 4 then level Vanille’s saboteur and Fang’s commando, then go on to Ravager/Sentinel etc. If you raise the role’s correctly you’ll easily achieve this HP, you should also have Vanille’s Marlboro Wand by then (Belladonna Wand upgrade) and Fang should be using Pandoran Spear (Taming Pole later on in Oerba if you want to go for an offensive build, otherwise stick with Pandoran Spear. You should have between 850 and 1050 Magic on Vanille also, this can be achieved via Sorceror’s Mark’s and Marlboro Wand. After that the guide should work perfectly, it did for me.
Many thanks for the guide
my characters have 3500 and 4000 but get owned just after i heal and then Hecatoncheir just owns me and only attacks Vanille what do i do ?!?!?!?!
i used a fortisol u shud be able to do that with that kinda health my vanille has 2890 health and fang has 3050
omg thankyou sooo much. i only have 2070hp in fang and 1870 in vanille and i beat it when my doom clock was in the single digits
i went back and trained and done it with using sab with Vanille and sen with fang and only had to heal once, i had 4490 with vanielle and 5150 with Fang
well i tried it many times however i always get killed coz of doom when its onl 1 round till the gaugage is full
thanks for the help, it worked really good. finished him off in the first try. I realised that SAB/SAB is better than COM/RAV to push up the gestalt meter. just switch to SAB/MED when you are on low hp and go SAB/SAB again when he recharge.
I didn’t use this guide, and I beat Hecatoncheir in 2:58 with 5 stars. Vanille has 1890 Health, and Fang 1820. I basically used Sab/Sen, And Med/Sen, and just spammed Deprotect, and switched to healing when Fang needed health. Both are Role Level 3 for The three Original Crystarium skills, and just about 1/4 of the way through the stage to get Role level 4. Vanille has 4 ATB because of One of the things I learned in Sab.
This worked the best. Just when I thought my brain was going to fizzle fry. Thanks
I’ve tried 10x with Fang at 2250 and Vanille at 2100 but either get timed out or killed. The Sab/Sab doesn’t move the gestalt bar fast enough because Fang’s Sab level is too low and she won’t cast anything during the battle. I didn’t focus enough on leveling Vanille’s Medic side, so she can’t keep up with the damage. Both have level 1 weapons and accessories. I guess I have to grind for a while to level up.
i’ve tried this stragy and about a milion others but it doest work, i cant get fang to do anything when i put her as Saboteur she just stands there doing nothing. is there any other stragy that i could use without having fang as saboteur, i’ve lost count of the number of times i’ve tried to win this, HELP!!!
Thx for the tip but i still can’t beat it…. I get so close then I die then I get so angry at this game it’s unexplainable…. oh yeah if ur stats are low just go through the entire tunnel and you should rack up a little more than 50k CP just by going from one end to the other(I avoid alot of fights so i get around 35K cp) and it only takes 15-30 minutes to get that much…in an hour you’ll have 100k – 200k Cp…. to make it go faster try getting preemptive strike with Rav Rav and Com to make the battle go by fast ( fastest for me was 9 seconds!!!!!) (another tip again is for ur rav’s make sure they know the weakness is lightning or your using it)
i followed ur advice and im stil having trouble. maybe it is because my people arn’t strong enough. idk. please help
finally got it after about 20 tries
was kinda hard since i normally use lightning/snow/hope and they have all the best accessories and I can’t be bothered changing them
I had less than 100 left on the Doom counter and still got 5 stars, I wonder if it’s even possible to get less? (the PAR-time or whatever it’s called is like 27 min
)
Omfg the only reason that Vanille has 2000+ health is that she has a mythril & tungsten bangle… Fang’s got 1800? and it wasn’t that hard. When the thing attacks, changs to Sen/Med right away and begin healing Fang to stop the thing from attacking you (start with Sab/Sab). Then use Sab/Com ’cause for some reason Fang didn’t do anything when I changed to Sab/Sab.
If your Fang isn’t doing anything when you put her in Saboteur then it’s likely that she isn’t leveled up enough to be helpful. You should have her role level at minimum of 3 in my opinion. She gains Daze, Dazega, Deshell, Deprotect, Pain, Painga and Jinx, plus a heck of a lot of HP, strength and magic.
If you aren’t at the level with her, you should consider keeping her in Sentinel because she has Provoke and Medguard even at the lower levels which will keep Vanille from being bombarded. Remember to heal (plus potions) if you start getting low on either of them because as soon as Fang is down he focuses on Vanille and you don’t have time to even contemplate a Pheonix Down before Vanille dies and it’s game over.
If all else fails, level up some more and remember to put your best accessories on those two previous to the battle, even taking them off your other members temporarily. HP and defense are key. Hopefully that helps.
Awesome,:3 I got 5 star too!
If your Fang’s Sab skills aren’t high (ie she just stands there in the Sab role), use Aegisol to compensate. I used Sab/Com then Med/Sen for recovery and made it through with five stars.
I’ve attempted this fight about 6 times, and I get killed in three rounds X.x I’m trying the tips now, see if anything will pan out. I’ve maxed out at least one job for one character, so my stats are fine. It’s strange, I didn’t have an issue with anything fight til this one.
If you can’t kill the mechanicals near by, go back to the field and kill dogs. It’s slow CP, but you gotta start somewhere.
I had about 2958 hp on both and I kinda used da set up but. I used
SAB/SAB just for da first part after that fang didn’t do anything
Den I used SAB/COM
Den I used MED/SEN
If health very low MED/MED last used
SAB/COM
I finished it in 1:24
But it toook me 5 tries den wen I did finish it. I finished it fast.
Heh, I never had a problem with this one. I got it first try without changing any paradigms. It didn’t seem too hard for me, and I think (if I recall correctly) my strategy was heavily based on either extreme offense when possible, and extreme defense when not. It was a gutsy way of going about it, but I guess I got lucky and it worked like a charm for me.
i keep coming soooooo close
but never close enough
YESSSSSSS I FINALLY DID IT
5 stars 2:56
Ok Basically i think i got the best tactic >
I had problems aswell with Fang not doing anything as sabo but that doesnt rly mattered
SETUP :
SAB / COM
SAB / SEN
MED / COM
MED / SEN
The idea behind this, u start as sab / com, fang being the com will run towards to mob, after u casted spells 2 times change to SAB / SEN….. Fang will go SEN infront of the mob, making its aoe attacks not hitting Vanille….. just let Fang take the dmg….if needed swap to MED / COM afterwards, or otherwise continue SAB / COM this way you will ALWAYS be attack the Eidolon, no matter what its doing (attacking or charging) just finished it with 5 stars works like a charm
I like how everyone says they 5-starred the fight. Of course you did, its an eidolon fight.
Anyway, SAB/SEN and MED/SEN worked great.
I would just like to point out how retarded it is that everyone is proud of their 5 STAR rating, as it is impossible to get anything less than 5 stars in an eidolon battle because the target time is usually around 15 minutes and obviously the doom counter means it can’t possibly last longer than the timer.
I tryed the sab/sab strat but when I seen fang not moving I followed the basic pattern and started with rav/com but I can only get a few mm off finishing it. Need to focus on fangs sab I think. I must have spent about 10 hours over the last 2 weeks trying to do this. Sick of my life cause of this part of the game
worked great. first try in under 3 minutes. Though i did have Vanille and Fang far in the Crystarium. My Fang has 4640 hp and vanille 3825. I basically maxed them out before i continued the storyline
I maxed out my crystarium and I still can’t beat hectoncheir using this method. (・・;) oh well, time to try a new strategy.
If u want to know wen ur definetely a high enough level then go back out of the tunnel and keep gaining loads of cp. Then take on one of the huge things (cant remember theyre names) as they have allmost 4 million health and if you can kill it then you know youre ready for tye eidolon.
Also dont use sab/sab allways use sab/sent have the generals belt and the titanium bangle (found) on fang and on vanille the gold bangle and the titanium bangle (if u dont have one use two gold bangles) and make sure they are both at at least 2200 health each without the bangle so about 2700-2800 health is the best and anything higher is a bonus mine was vanille = 3980 and fang = 4220
how far up in the crystirium should they b? cause i am 2 for sab 3 for med and 3 for rav for vanille. for fang i am 3 for com 2 for sab and 3 for sen. is that good or bad?
Awesome. That worked.
After about a million times trying to beat him/her with RAV/COM, and then I decide to look this up… And beat it first try.. -face palm- Although, when I used the SAB/SAB Fang just stood there, anyone know why?
Here’s my advice. Make sure Fang has a Ravager ability. Once all the SABs have been casted they’re uselss, but if both are RAVs when he’s loading, the gestalt meter will rise. Still it was difficult. I had almost max everything on the crystalrium and it took me a couple of tries.
Thank all that is holy for this. I struggled for about 3 months with this Eidolon (I must point out I took a few days or a week break in-between out of frustration). I did it first time, even though Vanille and Fang were just short of 2,500. Of course, I had also been tranining my CP for months and improving the characters, mostly going back to attack that Rust Flan but, I doubt that would have worked. Wished I would have found this tip earlier. Thanks.
Now I’m just focusing on completing the game and then, doing FFXIII part 2.
all off my character are undefeated they just like a boss..one hit the boss died..my sulutions to all of you hehe JAILBREAK ur ps3 and have a nice cheat hehehe peace..for me all the
bosses are easy hihi
ohhh yeah and btw all of my character health are 9999999HP some of ya showing off the health n there u goes mine character•••
Thanks so much! I was beginning to think after all the impossible battles I’ve faught thus far and conquered, I actually thought it was going to end here. Thanks for the help!
