Objective
Pursue Xolotl through the fiery depths

You need to time your jumps over the molten lava very well throughout this level, otherwise you’ll end up in the fiery furnace below. Hop over the first three stone platforms until you see the grapple hook on the ledge above you. To get to it, and the first red skull, you need to watch out for the two bursts of flames that shoot out from the wooden board underneath. You need to plant a spear right in the middle of the flames and time your jump so you don’t get burnt, or you can use the grapple hook to get to the platform. Climb up and grab the first red skull. Now go back on yourself, staying on the upper level and leaping across the stone columns to pick up the Power Up, Ammo Upgrade.

Head back to the fiery pit and jump across until you reach the gold handle. Pull it and run as fast as you can down the broken steps, past the skeletons and into the first Challenge Tomb. You have little time to make the dash before the Tomb closes, so equip an artefact or two that increases your speed, such as a Wind Drum or a Clay Serpent.

Challenge Tomb
You can move Lara around the outside of the grid where you’ll see three rolling balls. You have to place these balls on the three pressure pads. However, fire is moving around the perimeter of the grid in a clockwise direction and will kill you if it gets close. Also, the fire will increase in speed when you place the first ball on the pad. The best way to tackle this is to move anti-clockwise behind the trail of fire, placing each ball right next to its pad. Then, when you’ve done that, move again in an anti-clockwise direction, right behind the trail of fire, placing the balls in the pad. When you’ve placed all three, you can get across to the central platform and grab the Mask of Ehecatl.

Out of the tomb and down the steps.

Jump to all 6 spider tile platforms
Keep your momentum as you run down the steps into the area with the 6 spider tile platforms. Jump across the first three in a straight line and then come back on yourself to gain the other three. As long as you don’t stop jumping you’ll avoid the fire coming out of the mouths of the statues and you’ll gain an Ammo Power-up for your hard work. You’ll also pick up the second red skull automatically as you leap across the platforms.

Pressing forward down the steps, watch out for the fire coming out of the walls. You just need to time your run to avoid getting burnt. Down the steps and across the rolling platforms. You will encounter a few of these and need to time your jumps so you land on the platform when it is the right way up. You should now see a chain gun surrounded by fire and red skulls. You’ll be attacked from either side by huge ogres so make sure you have a powerful weapon equipped. When you’ve killed them, grab the chain gun and the two red skulls. Equip the chain gun.

Continue forward, across the rotating bridge and through the archway. This is the first major battle of the level and you’ll face a new enemy type that shoots fire at you. Mow down your enemies with the chain gun and make sure you see of the skeleton threat by using bombs.

Press on, down the steps and into the building. Throw a spear into the wall ahead so you can climb up and avoid the fire. You’ll see a number of platforms ahead and an impact switch. When you trigger the switch the heads of the fire-breaking statues will move in the opposite direction. To get across without dying you have to trigger it a couple of times to clear the pathway forward. Keep going until you reach the grapple hook. Grapple onto it and lower yourself down the ladders. You need to wall run in between the flames in order to grab the Power Up, Ammo Upgrade and the next red skull. Loose the grapple hook at the right time, swinging left, in order to land safely in the room below.

Heal yourself if you need to at the shrine and equip the grenade launcher to take out the arrow machine. The grenade launcher will also come in handy to destroy the shielded enemy who spawns behind you. Cross the flaming bridge and keep heading East until you see the rolling ball and the next red skull.

Heal the rolling ball
You need to bring the rolling ball to the health shrine. Pick it up and toss it across the first small gap. To get it across the fiery wooden bridge place the ball at this end of the bridge, place a bomb behind it and propel it across to the other side. Then time it right so you can get across the bridge without getting burnt – just wait until the flames are low and leap over. Place the ball next to the shrine and you’ll unlock a Wind Drum for your efforts.

Continue forward down the steps and you’ll now have to leap across a series of platforms that are protect by the fire breathing statues. First up, you want to get to the West side of the plaforms to get to the next Challenge Tomb. Leap across and use the impact switch in the centre to change the direction of the heads and avoid the flames.

Challenge Room 2
Jump on the L-shaped platform and trigger the impact switch twice, waiting until it has fully rotated before you take your second shot. You can then jump over and place a bomb next to it. Now get back on the platform and go left. Pull the handle and jump back on the platform. As soon as you land on it, detonate the bomb so you can then leap over to the other side and grab the War Drum before the gate shuts.

Out of the tomb, leap across the platforms moving South using the impact switches to change the direction of the statue heads to avoid the fire. There’s a red skull on one of the platforms to the South and a Health Upgrade on one to the East. Hop across the platforms jumping off to the South. Keep going past the munitions pile until you reach the next room.

Sacrifice 3 skeletons to the scorpion crest
Head up the small flight of steps and you will see a scorpion crest on one of the tiles on the floor. You need to lure three regenerating skeletons to that area, shoot them to disable them and then blow them up with a bomb just as they’re coming back to life. There’s about five or six skeletons on this level so you’ve got plenty of opportunity to achieve this reward. Stay around the scorpion crest for the duration of the battle. Smash urns to pick up ammo and health if needed.

Press forward, down the broken steps and across the rotating platforms. There are two skulls to pick up here as you leap across. As you move down the steps watch out for the fireballs raining down from above. Keep moving and before you reach the other side pick up the last of the ten red skulls. Move up the steps and you’ve completed the level.
