Command & Conquer 4: Class Guide – Support

Published on March 27th, 2010

Our final guide takes a detailed look at ′s most neglected class, Support. To best utilise this discipline there’s only a handful of tips every commander must know, fortunately we’ve listed all of them below:

Use Speed Wisely:

The Support class is undoubtedly the fastest and as a result you can penetrate enemy lines quickly before commanders can reorganise their defences. Make yourself a nuisance, you can’t capture the weakest node due to a lack of ground units, but you can at least neutralise it forcing your enemies to thin out and most importantly stop more points being added to the scoreboard.

Save up your Support Powers:

Closely knit formations are the secret to success

As the only class on the field who can call upon support powers, you need to make sure that every choice counts. They vary from small defence buffs to powerful attack moves, but the most important factor is using them wisely. Too many commanders wait too long saving up for the mega powers, whereas others waste points by applying small attack buffs. Save the big powers like Subterranean Strike for capturing nodes and attack bonuses to help aid small skirmishes.

Help Allies -

The clue is in the name really, the Support class isn’t as effective at capturing nodes due to only having a few ground based units. Therefore use your great aerial attack ability to destroy other crawlers, help out capture attempts and wreak some havoc. There’s no I in team and that’s more true in C&C4 than any other online RTS out there.

Never send bombers out alone:

Glory to the humble Salamander

A simple tip, but without any doubt a crucial one. Many of the bigger air units in C&C like NOD’s Salamander or GDI’s Orca have little or no defence against other ships. Make sure you assign at least two fighters to escort a group of bombers at all times, sending them out alone will inevitably lead to an early end to your assault.

Hide your base:

You can’t build defensive structures or pump out a variety of ground units, so the only way to stop your crawler prematurely expiring is by keeping it hidden. Keep you base by the turrets and missile batteries near the spawn sector or stay close to either offensive or defensive classes. The support class packs plenty of power but inevitably you are only as strong as the rest of your team.
