Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part One

February 9, 2010 | In: Bioshock 2

Bioshock 2 is finally here, and it’s time to set foot into Rapture once again, albeit a slightly heavier foot than last time.

The sequel is very different from the original in many ways, but some of the core gameplay mechanics still remain and familiar elements such as the audio diaries and Plasmids.

We have already started our guide to the multiplayer element of Bioshock 2, and now bring you part one of our single player walkthrough guide.

Bioshock 2 is set around 10 years after the events of the original Bioshock, and after a short introduction you awake as a Big Daddy in the Adonis Luxury Resort.

Adonis Luxury Resort

Walk through the water towards the back of the room, and up the steps to your right and follow the path.

You will see a Little Sister peeping out from one of the wall tunnels you will be familiar with from Bioshock.

Turning again, you will see a doorway on your left side, blocked with coral – simply use your drill attack to break through allowing you to continue on into the adjoining room.

A broken pillar blocks your progress; just crouch underneath to get past.

You exit the room, and find yourself in the Adonis Baths, with a large empty pool, and the entrance to Plasmid Therapies opposite.

As you move into the room a figure jumps across, breaking a pillar and sending it crashing down into the empty pool below, before disappearing.  This is your first encounter with a Big Sister – you’ll be seeing a lot more of these later in the game.

Walk around the right-hand side of the pool, passing the closed door on your right, and pick up the can of Potted Meat and the Drill Fuel at the end.

On the left side of the pool you will find an audio diary – there is an achievement/trophy for collecting all 100 of these through the game. I will try and cover as many as possible, but right now this guide focuses on progression through the games story.

Go through the door into Plasmid Therapies.

From here, you can go left into Plasmid Therapies, or right to the Sauna and Tanning Salon.

First, you will be jumped by a Splicer from the left – use your drill attack to kill him, and search the body for a few items.
Get used to doing this, as you may find yourself short of cash or ammo later in the game.

Once you’ve dealt with the Splicer, turn back and take the right path to the Sauna and Tanning Salon. The door here is locked with a code panel, but thankfully someone has kindly left the code written in reverse, in the steam on the window.

Enter the code, 1540, and pick up the money, fuel and audio diary in the room.

Now go back to Plasmid Therapies, picking up the Eve Hypo on the ledge just as you enter.

Empty the cash register on the left for some extra cash, and grab the drill fuel by the wrecked couches to the right.

Just as you enter this room you will experience a short flashback, and then see something ahead that should be familiar to all Bioshock players – a Gatherers Garden.

This is where you gain your first Plasmid – the Electro Bolt.

For those new to the franchise, (where have you been??) Plasmids modify your body allowing control over powers such as electricity, fire and ice.

This is where combat becomes more fun, using a combination of both Plasmids and weapons, but unlike the original Bioshock you no longer need to switch between the two – now you get to wield both at the same time.

From now on, when attacked, just give the Splicer a jolt with the Electro Bolt, followed by a burst from your drill.

As you pick up your Electro Bolt Plasmid you will have a short cut-scene where you see a Little Sister snatched by a running Splicer.

Before you go running after the Splicer, turn back around and search the two rooms on either side of the Gatherers Garden to get some cash. There are also some cigarettes here, which provide a small increase to your Eve, but lower your health slightly.

Once you have picked up these items, head back the way you came, which is where the Splicer ran off.

The door is now closed, so use your Electro Bolt on the door switch to open it again.

Go back out into the Adonis Baths, and kill the Splicer stood on the diving board with the Electro Bolt to stun, and finishing off with the drill.

Quickly turn around to kill another Splicer that tries to attack you from behind, and then loot the bodies.

On the North wall you will see a generator – fire your Electro Bolt at the glowing panel to give the generator a boost and restore the power.

This will lower the shutters covering the room’s windows, giving you a glimpse of the outside with a Big Daddy wandering around underwater.

At this point you will receive a message from Tenenbaum, who provides your first objective – find her in the Atlantic Express Train Station.

Follow the objective arrow to the previously closed door on the opposite side of the pool. Now that the power has been restored, this door is open.

Before following the waypoint arrow any further, make a quick detour into the ‘Dames’ toilets to pick up an Audio Diary and search the lockers for some goodies.

Quick stop off at the loo

One of the cubicles has a coin lock – use the action button to put a coin in to unlock the door. Search the corpse inside for more items and cash, and then head back to the way you came.

Be careful on the way out as there is a Sluggish Splicer waiting for you – a quick combination of Electro Bolt and drill sorts her out nicely.

To your right you will find an Eve Hypo by the window.

Go through the door into the next room. Ahead of you are two Splicers – as they are stood in a pool of water simply fire your Electro Bolt to fry them both, then once the sparks have died off, loot the bodies.

Go around the edge of the pool in this room, and into the corridor behind. You will find a large door here, which is jammed open by something on the ground – the Rivet Gun!

Pick up your first ranged weapon, but be careful when you do, as the door will now open, revealing two Splicers on the other side.

Shock them with the Electro Bolt if needed, and use the Rivet Gun to finish them off.

Before going through the door, turn around and search the body of Rosie the Big Daddy behind you, then make sure you loot the two Splicers you just killed.

As you enter the room you will find more Rivet Gun ammo on the floor to your right, and an Eve Hypo on the chair to the left.

Go round the alcove to your left and pick up the first aid kit from the supplies box, before taking the right path for an audio diary. Follow the path around, searching the bodies and luggage as you go, for more items.

As you get near the end of this path, a Splicer will enter the corridor where you came in, so head back and sort him out – you can use the drill here, rather than the Rivet Gun, to save ammo as he’s not very tough.

Head back into the main room, turn right, go up the steps and through the door into the main hallway.

Here you will meet a Little Sister, trying to get herself some Adam. As you get close, Big Sister will interrupt you, and she doesn’t want you playing with the Little Sisters.

Big Sister - Through the Fire and Flames

This will be your first fight with a Big Sister, and they can be pretty tough.

Try and keep your distance to avoid the flamethrower attack she has, but watch out for the explosive grenades that she throws.

Don’t forget to use your first aid kits here, if needed.

Use your Elector Bolt to stun her, then attack from range with the Rivet Gun. Rinse and repeat until you drop her health a little – at this point she will run off and through the North door.

Once she has gone, search around the room and behind the wrecked staircase for some meat, a first aid kit, Rivet Gun ammo and an Audio Diary from Andrew Ryan.

Now go through the same North door, into Demeter’s Banquet Hall, making sure you pick up the ammo on the left side of the door as you enter.

Continue down the corridor, into the banquet hall, following the Big Sister as she runs away.

As you enter the room you will see a large, banquet hall with a few scattered tables and chairs, and a huge window on the far wall providing an impressive view of the underwater depths outside.

Banquet Hall

Jump down onto the floor below, and watch helplessly as the Big Sister jumps up and slices through the glass of the huge banquet hall window, which breaks in and floods the room.

Thankfully, as a Big Daddy, you don’t need to worry so much about the water, and can simply walk along the ground – swimming is out of the question, however, due to your size, and when under water you cannot use your weapons.

Go out through the newly broken window, and you will receive another message from Tenanbaum, asking you to find her at the train station.

Jump over the broken pillar blocking your path, and pick up the ammo on the right.

As you walk ahead you will see a scene in front of you, through another window, with a Little Sister and her Big Daddy fighting off Splicers and turrets.

Under the Sea

Continue on the path, along the length of the window and past the fuel pump.

As you turn south, the path briefly splits into two, before merging again shortly after. Take the left path to find an Eve Hypo and some more ammo.

At the end of the path, go through the tunnel, which comes out before the familiar site of old Rapture – drop down the ledge as you emerge from the tunnel and head left.

As you approach Atlantic Express, the Big Sister jumps up on to the sign before swimming away.
Being too heavy to swim, there is no point trying to give chase, so just go inside Atlantic Express and hit the switch on the Airlock Control to drain the water.

Welcome to Rapture

This ends the first section of Bioshock 2, and should also earn you an Achievement/Trophy – Daddy’s Home – for finding your way back into the ruins of Rapture.
