Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part Two: Welcome to Rapture

February 9, 2010 | In: Bioshock 2

Part two of our Bioshock 2 guide starts off with your return to Rapture, and arrival at Atlantic Express.

The airlock has drained itself of all the water and you’re all set to continue, and make your way to the ticket booth to meet Tenenbaum, where she promises to offer what she knows of you.

The door in front will open automatically.

A Splicer is in the next room, and will attempt to run away – if you’re quick on the trigger you can take him out to get a little extra loot from his corpse.

Carry on through the doorway ahead, and into the Maintenance Facility.

Follow the path up the steps, and back to your left.  Another Splicer is at the end of the corridor, but will close the door as soon as you try to attack, or get close.

There’s no way through the door at the moment, so go into the doorway on your right, which is the Tool Storage room.

On the right, as you go through the door, is a tin of canned beans if you need a health top-up.

Turn left, to face the other end of the small storage room, to find your new toy – the Remote Hacking Tool.

This allows you to hack machines, turrets and cameras from a distance; something which will come in very useful.

An extra remote hack dart is available on the table, next to the tool, and you gain another by using the tool dispenser on the wall to your right.

Looking at the window above the table, you will see that it is partly broken – equip your hacking tool, aim through the window and fire it at the door control console on the wall.

Remote Door Hack

You will now be introduced to the new hacking interface – gone are the annoying pipe games of the original Bioshock.  Instead, a needle moves back and forth along a dial which is marked with white, green and blue sections.

Using the action button, stop the needle in a green or blue section – the white ones will give you a nasty shock, knocking down your health, and may trigger alarms in some sections.

Green will be a successful hack, and blue offers a little bonus depending on the item being hacked – extra damage from security bots or free health kits from Heal Stations.

You will also earn yourself another achievement here – Distance Hacker, for using the hack tool on an object at a distance.

Go back through the tool storage room, and through the newly opened door.

In the next room you will find a deactivated security bot on the ground.  Walk up to this and you will be prompted to perform a close range hack.

Just the same as the door control, stop the needle within a green or blue section – ideally blue, which will give the bot a damage boost.

Once the turret is hacked, make your way through the next doorway, which will bring you into Train Workshop 6A.

Workshop 6A 300x187 Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part Two: Welcome to Rapture

Workshop 6A

The workshop contains a suspended train in the centre of the long room, with a path around each side of this, and a doorway into the workshop on your left.

As you enter the carriage will rock, and then fall to the ground causing a Splicer to come running from the back end of the room, and another out of the workshop doorway.

Stun the closest and finish her off with the Rivet Gun, and stun the other as he runs towards you – the security bot will lend a hand here and pop off a few shots of its own.

Loot the bodies, and then make a quick run around the edges of the room picking up any items on the way, before going back to the workshop doorway the Splicer came through.

On the wall to the right of this door is a Heal Station, hack this for cheaper heals and get a free first aid kit if you land the blue bonus.

Go into the workshop and pick up all the items, including another Audio Diary from Andrew Ryan.

Head up the steps at the back of the workshop and exit into the main room, opposite the doorway to Gate Control where you now need to go, picking up the ammo just before you go in.

This corridor leads you to a room with several security monitors, and a gate control level – use the action button to pull the lever.

The room will go dark, before the monitors flare into life and you will be faced with Sofia Lamb – the woman from the opening cutscene to the game.

She’s not very happy with you, and intends to do something about it, and as the message ends the shutters will come down revealing a group of Splicers trying to shoot through the glass to get to you.

Splicer Attack 300x187 Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part Two: Welcome to Rapture

Splicer Attack

As the glass breaks they begin to throw Molotov Cocktails, starting a fire in the room which eventually burns through the floor causing it to collapse, sending you splashing into the water below.

Once you’re back on your feet, make your way North.  To get your directional bearings bring up the map to see which direction you are facing.

As you walk through the water, look up towards the surface – you will see corpses floating along; search these for more items and cash.

You will receive another message from Tenenbaum, mentioning your shared enemy, Sofia Lamb.  Tenenbaum can see your actions via the camera in your helmet, so is watching out for you.

Continue through the flooded room, and crouch at the end to get out through the tunnel into the next room.  Go up the steps to emerge from the water, and crouch again at the top of the stairs to get under the broken door.

In this room is a Vita-Chamber, so if you’re unfortunate enough to die you will respawn here.

Continue up the steps into the Drafting room.

As you enter Tenenbaum will warn you about security cameras – and just in time, too.  Don’t move any further just yet, and look ahead into the adjoining room and you will see a security camera on the wall.

Watch out for the camera 300x187 Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part Two: Welcome to Rapture

Watch out for the camera

Switch to your remote hacking too, fire, and hack the camera from a distance creating a friendly alarm, and releasing Security Bots to attack the Splicers waiting for you.

Once they are dead make your way through the room, picking up the various items from the room, not forgetting to loot the bodies and search the filing cabinets around the room edges.

You will now have a friendly Security Bot following you around for a little while, which will make things a little easier.

Continue through the room, and you will come to a door leading to the Jet Postal Office on your right.

On the left is a locked door, leading into Workshop 6B – a few Splicers are in here huddled around a fire.  Don’t worry about these for now.

Go into the postal office, and as you enter there will be a short cutscene featuring your Little Sister Eleanor – although she’s not so little any more – who tells you she has left a little gift for you.

In the middle of the room is a small, gift-wrapped cart – say hello to your next Plasmid, Telekinesis.

Telekinesis 300x187 Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part Two: Welcome to Rapture

Telekinesis

The Telekinesis Plasmid gives you the power to pick up things with your mind, and throw them at your enemies.  Fun!

Equip the TK Plasmid in a spare Plasmid slot – you start with three in total.

Pick up the Eve Hypo on your right, and then carry on through the room, up the stairs, and out on to a walkway above Workshop 6B – you will see the Splicers you noticed earlier, below you.

They won’t see you up where you, so take a moment to grab the Eve Hypo from the floor on the right, and then the Audio Diary from the desk a little further on.

Now it’s time to have some fun with your new Plasmid – use it to pick up the gas canisters on the platform, holding the button while aiming, and then release to launch the object at the Splicers below.

If you aim just right, at the burning barrel in the middle of the three Splicers, you can take them all out at the same time.

This kind of noise generally tends to gain a bit of attention, however, and another couple of Splicers will run in from the nearby rooms.  Use the same tactic to take these out, too.

If you are careful here, and plan well, you can earn another achievement in this section – Counterattack.

I am the firestarter 300x187 Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part Two: Welcome to Rapture

I am the firestarter!

One of the Splicers below will throw some kind of projectile at you – using your Telekinesis power grab the projectile from the air and fire it back.  If you manage to kill the Splicer, you earn the achievement.

Make your way down the ramp at the end of the platform into the room below, and work your way around the large room picking up items and looting the deceased Splicers.

On the North side you will find the door you were looking through earlier.  Using the Electro Bolt Plasmid, fire a shot at the control switch to the right of the door to open the door for a little shortcut back round.

There are plenty of items to pick up in this workshop, including another Audio Diary.

As you head towards the West side of the workshop, a huge metal door will slam down blocking your path.   Look to your left, through a window, and you will see a Splicer jamming a wrench into the door mechanism – you need to clear this before you can continue.

Before you do this, head back east and go through the door marked Cafeteria.  Just as you go through the door there is a Heal Station for you to hack.

Go straight ahead, and into the wrecked, and burning, kitchen.  In the back room you will find another Audio Diary to collect.

Once you have this, head back through the Cafeteria, following the waypoint arrow.  Two Splicers have decided to follow you in – quickly fire an Electro Bolt frying them both as they stand on the flooded kitchen floor.

As you exit the Cafeteria, turn left and go up the steps, stopping to collect an Eve Hypo from the Eve dispenser on the wall.

In the next small room, search inside the toilets for some extra cash, and then look through the broken wall ahead of you.

You will see the door mechanism here – using your Telekinesis pull the wrench out to free the cogs, and opening the door into the rest of the Workshop.  This will also trigger a little verbal rant from Sofia Lamb.

Door Mechanism 300x187 Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part Two: Welcome to Rapture

Door Mechanism

Head back into the workshop, and through the door you have just opened.

Upon entering this large room, head straight ahead to the far wall to find a few corpses for looting.

Turn around, and head back, but this time go up the ramp on your right.

Search the fallen filing cabinet at the top for some more items, and then head down the path to the left for some more ammo and an Audio Diary.

At the end of this corridor is the door mechanism from earlier, with an ammo pick-up and another body to search.

Now, turn around, and go back up the ramp on the opposite side of the room.  Search the body on the floor and hack the vending machine.

Getting the blue bonus while hacking the vending machines will provide you with a free item – always nice to save some cash when possible.  Hacking the machines also provides a discount to anything you purchase.

Stock up on ammo, Eve hypos, and remote hack darts here if you need any, but at this point in the game you should still have plenty, unless you have been quite trigger happy.

Go through the doorway to the left, and up the stairs.  As you ascend, a few toy bricks will tumble down and as you reach the top the Big Sister will jump out in front of you.

Stop for a moment as she jumps away, over the train carriage in the middle of the room and then disappears again.

Tenenbaum will pipe up with another update, and urges you to get to the elevator quickly – but don’t go too quickly just yet.

Carefully walk to the top of the stairs, and look to your right.  Just ahead, through the beam of light, there is a security camera on the far wall.

Cameras can be a saviour or a killer 300x187 Bioshock 2 – Single Player Walkthrough Part Two: Welcome to Rapture

Cameras can be a saviour - or a killer!

Equip your remote hacking tool again, fire and hack – try to get the blue bonus for more time.

Once hacked, run to the crates on the right for some more ammo, and then make your way around the circular room towards the elevator at the end.

Proceed with caution, though, as you will be attacked by a total of 7 Splicers in groups of two, or three.

As usual, a combination of Electro Bolt and Rivet Gun should sort them out, as will the help of the Security Bot from the hacked camera.

Go into the elevator, push the button to close the doors, and watch as you narrowly escape another Splicer attack.

As the elevator ascends, Tenenbaum will explain your existence, and the special bond you have with your Little Sister, Eleanor Lamb.

That’s right – she’s the daughter of Sofia Lamb, who has been causing a considerable amount of trouble for you so far.

In order to rescue Eleanor you need to make your way to Fontaine Futuristics where she is being held, but for now that is the end of part two of our Bioshock 2 guide.

In part three we continue our walkthrough of the single player story, and see if we can get any closer to Eleanor Lamb, and pick up a few new toys on the way.
