Check out Part One Gamerzine’s guide to gadgets, which includes information on motion sensors, mortar strikes and repair tools and much more.
Repair Tool – Engineer – Unlocks at 1,070 points
If you’ve been racking up the points as an Engineer during Bad Company 2’s multiplayer then you’ll get access to the very handy repair tool, which looks a little like a drill. With this piece of kit you can repair damaged vehicles. Make sure you’re out of sight when you’re repairing though, because you’ll have to wait for a repair metre to fill up before the vehicle is fully repaired. During this time you’re prone to attack.
You can use the repair tool while you’re up in a helicopter, but it is most effective when you roll into an enemy base with a tank. have an engineer handy and you’ll be able to keep patching him up while he does the dirty work. Using the tool is an easy way to gain points; and the more points you get the bettear gadgets you unlock.
Ammo Box – Assault – Unlocks at 1,180 points
This is a portable ammo box that you take with you everywhere if you chose the Assault class. Stand near to a bunch of team-mates and keep dropping supplies. Not only will give your team a better fighting chance, but you’ll also earn a re-supply bonus which goes toward your points. Your own weapons will rarely run out of ammo so you’ll probably never need it for yourself, but it will help your team-mates at immensely especially if they’re frantically trying to dig themselves out of a situation.
Motion Sensors – Recon – Unlocks at 860 points
You’ll pick these up if you choose the Recon class. Motion sensors are perfect for sniffing our enemy positions. You can throw them a long way too, so find a safe place out of sight and launch one into the mix. When you or your team-mates move forward into that position you’ll be able to spot the positions of your enemies on the mini-map. Their power doesn’t last for ever though and you can only carry a maximum of three power sensors, so use them wisely.
Mortar Strike – Recon – Unlocks at 3,390 points
This gadget can be unlocked by working on gaining points in Recon class. Using a mortar strike allows you to target a destination on the map and then call in a strike. Use their power to take out vehicles, tanks and groups of infantry. Or use it to blow up a building close to an enemy defended M-Com station or command point. This will give your enemy less chance to hide behind cover.
Anti-Tank Mine – Engineer – Unlocks at 1,070 points
You’ll pick this up in Assault class. You simply need to place a mine in a position where you hope to cause the most damage, make sure you’re a safe distance away and then trigger it to explode. If you see a tank in the distance heading your way set one up in the middle of the road, or leave them scattered around command points that you currently hold to kill any enemy that tries to take control of your base. Be aware that these mines can be disabled when spotted and you are vulnerable to attack when holding the triggering mechanism in your hands.
C4 Explosives – Recon – Unlocked at start
You’ll get these right at the start when you choose the Recon class. You can stick these explosives to hard surfaces, so it goes without saying that tanks are an ideal target. Like the anti-tank mine they are ideally for scattering around a vulnerable location. Bear in mind though that you’re vulnerable to attack when triggering them. You can place up to four charges, perfect for attaching to an M-Com station – make sure you’re far away when you set them off!
Defibrillator – Medic – Unlocks at 5,800 points
This superb piece of kit allows you to totally revive team-mates, effectively bringing them back from the dead. You only have a short window of opportunity though. If you see a team-mate hit the floor run over and revive him before it’s too late. You earn yourself a bonus and a huge pat on the back from your ally. When equipped keep an eye on the mini-map it shows you where dead allies have fallen. The defibrillator does take a few seconds to re-charge so while you’ll waiting switch back to a weapon so that you’re armed.
