In the first of our series of vehicle guides, we look at light , the role that they play in multiplayer matches and tips on how to use them effectively.

Light Vehicles

Quad Bike

One shot and you're down.

Equipped - No

Seats – 1 driver, 1 passenger

This two seater bike is the perfect form of transport for getting from A to B quickly. There are no attached weapons, but if you have a guy riding in the back he can freely use his equipped weapon.  The Quad can move across rough terrain and jump ramps with speed.  If you want to get in and out of an area fast, to blow up an M-Com station for example, find a safe place to park it, set your charge and get out of there quickly and speed around to the next station.  It’s a great way to move swiftly from one station to the next.

Tips – Flank enemy positions by using the Quad Bike to race down the sides of the maps, which are more likely to be free from enemies.  Unless you’re feeling very brave don’t storm straight into a base with this vehicle — you’re extremely exposed and one shot from a 40mm grenade or RPG will send you to an early grave.

HUMV

Equipped – Yes, 1 passenger can use .50 caliber machine gun

Seats – 1 driver, 3 passenger

This is another nippy little vehicle to get you from A to B en masse. The added firepower of the machine gun means that you can afford to take a chance and storm into a base, while the passengers and driver storm out the gunner can keep enemies at bay swivelling his machine-gun 360 degrees.  Beware though, the HUMV has light armour and is prone to being destroyed from a blast by an RPG.

Tips – Use the machine gun to take down enemy helicopters.  If you die at the expense of a helicopter, it’s well worth spawning in the area where you can jump in this vehicle and then get your revenge.

VODNIK

Take down a helicopter!

Equipped - Yes, 1 passenger can use the 12.7mm machine gun

Seats - 1 driver, 3 passenger

The Vodnik is meant to be used as a transport vehicle and is available if you’ve sided with the Russians.  Use it to bring your men in mass to a set location, or run enemies over in it to score points. If you see a tank, or RPG-armed enemy in your sights it’s  wise for the passengers to evacuate immediately.  It’s far better having one of you dead rather than four!

COBRA

Equipped – Yes, 1 passenger can use the 12.7mm machine gun

Seats - 1 driver, 3 passenger

The Cobra troop transporter spawns on the Russian side and is immune to small arms fire, but come face-to face with a tank and you’ll soon be cannon fodder. The Cobra operates identically to the US HUMV, so use the 360 degree swivel of the machine gun to take out surrounding troop, or park the vehicles somewhere out of sight and take down that pesky helictopter.

Remember, all of these light vehicles are useful due to the their speed, but all of the them can be blown up easily by a rocket launcher or a tank. It’s always best to survey the area you’re heading for, check out how troops there are and what they’re carrying before you go storming in.  If there’s an enemy tank waiting for you, just get out and go by foot.
