Engineers are anti-armour specilaists and the perfect choice if you want to take out or repair vehicles. Check out Gamerzine’s Guide to the Engineer Class, including tips and strategies to keep you one step ahead of the game.
Having immediate access to the RPG Rocket Launcher will stand you in good stead against any vehicle, but it’s also handy for getting rid of a pesky sniper camping in the distance, or for suprising a group of enemies rushing into one of your command points. Use the KillCam to uncover enemy sniper positions and then send a rocket their way.
The Rocket Launcher is less effective at distance so try to aim your reticule higher than normal because your rocket will drop. Use it blast walls of buildings where you suspect enemies may be hiding, or take out guard towers totally with one carefully place shot. When attacking tanks remember to approach them from the back or sides where they are most vulnerable. It will normally take two or three rockets to destroy a tank completely.
When you unlock the tracer dart, your rocket launcher becomes much more effective. You can tag the dart to a vehicle and then your rocket will automatically lock on, so it’s wise to always equip the tracer dart as your secondary weapon.
The engineer also carries the repair tool, which allows him to repair tanks and helicopters. If you jump into a helicopter as a passenger you’ll be able to repair the helicopter while in flight, thus giving your gunners more time to shoot down the enemy. When repairing a tank be sure to watch out for enemy fire. Stand on the side of the tank where you think enemies aren’t likely to be. Repairing vehicles can be a great way to rack up the points, but remember, you can’t repair tanks that have been totally destroyed.
If you role you want to play involves killing lots on infantry on foot, the Engineer Class isn’t the ideal choice due to relatively poor choice of fire-arms early on.
