There are plenty of co-op actions and moves to help you find your way through Shanghai and master to give you an advantage over your enemy. Here’s a quick description of each of them, along with a few tips to help you survive on your journey.
Aggro: Aggro is the fundamental concept behind co-op strategies. A player shooting and killing enemies will attract heavier aggro on himself. Having a lot of aggro means that enemies will focus only on this player and will forget about his partner. This will allow the partner to flank or snipe the enemy without attracting much attention. Take time to tinkle with Aggro; it is the difference between surviving the chaos of Shanghai and going home in a body bag. Notice how the aggro meter fills up when you shoot and kill enemies.
Stepjump: The stepjump can be performed at places where you need to get over a fence or up to higher grounds. To give a step jump, just get close to a wall, press the A Button and press the Left Thumbstick up once your partner is ready to be boosted.
Revive partner: To revive a wounded partner, get close to him and hold down the A Button once it appears on screen. You can also grab and drag your partner to cover by tapping the A Button once.
Feign death: During firefights, you might find yourself pinned down by the enemy and about to get killed. In these moments, you will be able to feign your death. If you feign successfully, enemies will think you’re dead and immediately turn their attention to your partner, giving you some time to recover.
Shield: Doors from certain objects found throughout Shanghai can be ripped off and used as shields. Simply go to the object (such as an electric box) and press the A Button to rip off its door. You will only be able to use your pistol when using a shield. You can press the Y Button at all time to discard it.
Mock Surrender : Mock surrender is an excellent way to get the enemy’s attention and use the element of surprise. When the enemies order to surrender, press the A Button and walk toward them. You must then press the A Button a second time to kneel down. When kneeled, aim at your victim and then press the Right Trigger to fire your pistol. Time will slow down to allow quick aiming and shooting. Mock surrender can also be used in co-op with both players surrendering and kneeling down.
Coop Snipe: Co-op snipe will be very useful to silently take out multiple guards. When both players are in the sniper’s scope mode (by pressing Left Trigger), a Countdown option will appear. Press the A Button to activate the countdown. When playing with a computer-controlled partner he will automatically fire when you fire.
Grab hostages: Grabbing an officer hostage is a very good way of taking care of enemies without shedding any blood. First, identify which one is the officer and walk slowly toward him. When you are close enough, a Context-Sensitive-Action will appear at the bottom of your screen. Press Left Bumper to grab him. Once you hold him hostage, point your gun
toward the remaining enemies and press A Button to tell your partner to tie them up. After your partner is done, Click the Left Thumbstick to tie up your hostage. To take a officer hostage, walk slowly to him and press the Left Button.
Back to Back: You will have to perform this action at certain key moments in the game. Rios and Salem will automatically get back to back and the game will enter into slow-motion mode. The goal is to kill all the wave of enemies pouring in before they manage to kill you and your partner. Free your partner: At some point in the game your partner might be taken hostage by an enemy. In this situation there is only one solution: Aim very carefully at the enemy’s head. Watch out not to shoot your partner!
