To succeed in you need to master both light-based and conventional . Each hand-held light-based weapon has a boost ability that enable you to take down the Taken quickly, but it also drains your battery and you don’t want to be left in the dark. To kill Taken effectively you’ll often have to follow up a light attack with a conventional weapon. Check out this weapon’s guide.

Light Based Weapons

Flashlight

You’ll pick up the flashlight early on and carry it throughout the game. It will light your way where ever you go through the dark forests. Aim at a the taken it will burn away their cloak of darkness. Remember that batteries need to be replaced!

Heavy-Duty Flashlight

The greater battery capacity of the heavy-duty flashlight could be a life-saver. It allows you to strip away the darkness more quickly from the Taken due its superior boosting abilities.

Lantern

The lantern is more powerful that the heavy-duty flashlight, but it has a restricted, much shorter boosting capacity.

Heavy-Duty Lantern

This is the most powerful hand-held light emitting device. If you upgrade to the heavy-duty lantern you get more power, a brighter light and can boost for longer.

Searchlight

You’ll see these dotted around, but you won’t find many of them. They’ll destroy the tougher Taken with ease and if you use them to scan the environment you may find clues (such as arrows) that will point you to hidden chests.

Flare

Use flares when you get overwhelmed by the Taken. You can use them to clear a pathway through the Taken if you need to make a sharp exit. They are most effective against poltergeist objects. They don’t burn for very long, so get out there quickly!

Flare Gun

This will kill three of four taken instantly and can deal great damage from a distance. Fire it a birds to disperse them quickly, but remember you have to reload between shots so don’t get caught out trying to reload.

Flashbang Grenades

Lob a flashbang into a group of Taken and they’ll instantly explode. Flashbangs will get you out of a sticky situation very quickly.

Conventional Weapons

    Revolver

You’ll start off with a revolver which holds just 6 bullets in each round. Make sure you reload frequently when you’re standing in a safe area. You don’t want to be reloading when surrounded by Taken. Aiming for head will kill the Taken more quickly than body shots.

    Shotgun

Great a short distance, but they only hold two rounds. It’s a two-barrelled shotgun so you can take two Taken out quickly one after the other. If one Taken is standing behind another the bullet will go straight through the first, killing both of them instantly.

    Pump-action Shotgun

There’s not much difference between this and the standard shotgun apart from the ammo capacity. The pump action shotgun holds eight rounds, but fires slightly more slowly than the shotgun

    Hunting Rifle

This is the strongest conventional weapon in the game. It holds five rounds but will take enemies out with one shot.

head-shots don’t actually affect damage. On normal difficulty, a standard taken (axe-throwing) will be killed with two bullets from a revolver, regardless of where he is hit. A flanker takes one bullet . Also, on nightmare, it takes more than one shot from the hunting rifle to kill an assault taken.
