Until you get to Chapter 11, levelling is pretty basic. The Crystarium grid is pretty restricted early on so there is no real reason for you to try level your team. If you want the best team for each boss encounter then just don’t skip any fights. This will net you enough crystogen points (CP) to max out your current role. Everything opens up in Chapter 11 and you are free to teach your party any role you wish, just at a high price.
Here is a handy guide on how to get a healthy amount of easy Crystarium points and push you one step closer in getting those Master Role Trophies and Achievements.
Now stats and abilities are costing around the 6000 CP mark, you want to be bringing in a healthy amount of CP to support your levelling. When you get to The Archyle Steppe – Central Expanse (aka the giant field) in Gran Pulse, you are free to take on from Cei’th Stone missions as well as play around with your party. Here is where the real levelling begins!
After the brief cut scene that introduces Cie’th stones, head back to the save point and save your game. Head right along the edge of the map until you encounter a Behemoth King. This bad boy will net you 4000 CP for each battle. There is a catch, they are tough as nails. There is a trick to take them down in under 60 seconds however.
So, you’ll want two party members with minimum level 3 Saboteur, Vanille and Fang should both fit this requirement. You’ll want a healer who can also deal out some damage with Ravager, so pop Lightning into the team.
Now set up your Paradigms like this;
- Fang Saboteur / Lightning Medic / Vanille Saboteur
- Fang Commando / Lightning Ravager / Vanille Ravager
The trick with the Behemoth King is to get a pre-emptive strike. This is where you attack the enemies from behind on the field without it noticing you. This particular Behemoth turns around a lot so take a few minutes to work out his pattern before striking. If he does notice you run away and try again.
At the start of the Battle, your party leader will strike and put the Behemoth into a near stagger. Cast Libra and then watch as your team casts negative status effects onto the Behemoth. Do this until he staggers and then switch to the Relentless Assault paradigm (com/rav/rav) and start attacking him over and over. Keep up and after 50 seconds the Behemoth is down. You must take it out before the stagger meter ends as if the Behemoth isn’t dead by the time that runs out he will stand up on his legs and heal himself fully. Then he will take out your party pretty quickly so don’t let this happen.
At the end of the battle you will have gained 4000 CP. Head back to the save point, save, then rinse and repeat.
If you are having issues beating him, try running around the area and beat some of the smaller enemies. The Behemoth King is the fastest way to gain some easy CP and level up your Crystarium grid early on. This also means you can take on some of the harder Cie’th missions earlier on.

what i do to get lots of crystarium points is i go to the mine and fight thos pulse robots and flans and bombs and i usually get a whopping 7000 to 9000 cp each battle. by the time you get through the whole mine you will already have over 50000 cp.
When you fight a cactaur, don’t attack it. It will grow twice and become a Cactuar Prime. Then, it is worth 15,000 points. With a growth egg, it is worth 30,000. Hit it with three good commandos and you can take it out in about minute. So, you can easily be making over 100,000 crystarium points every 5 minutes.
