Face Raiders review

Published on March 11th, 2011

Taking a picture of your friend and proceeding to shoot them in the face over and over doesn’t sound like an activity that fits under Nintendo’s ‘for all the family’ blanket but ask anyone to explain pre-installed game and that’s the response you’ll get.

It’s an intriguing concept and one that’s made more accessible on .
Snap a picture of any face you can keep still long enough to align to the guidelines provided and watch as their mug protrudes out of the screen, slaps on a propeller helmet and wreaks havoc around your living room.

You’ll constantly be on the move as hordes of these yapping terrors invade your surroundings: smashing through walls as you fire ping-pong like balls into their open gobs.

Blasting away chucks of floating debris, swerving your 3DS to avoid an unwanted smooch from a friend and tackling the head honcho (no pun intended) before sending him packing – you’ll soon discover that high score is meaningless after you’ve experienced this quirky shooter.

It’s packed with hilarity as faces interact with each other in-between levels and a neat feature pulls mugs from your Nintendo 3DS photo library to give you a bustling gallery of barking heads.

Like many of the system’s applications, Face Raiders is a ‘show-off feature’ designed to have you passing around the 3DS to let everyone have a go and rewarding you with a few unlockables.

Face Raiders might not keep you returning after the system’s launch excitement dies down but you’ll get a few laughs out of it and wow a few friends in the process -especially when you haven’t got those AR cards handy.
