Nintendo is considering developing a sequel to StreetPass Quest, the RPG-lite game included with 3DS, the company’s president Satoru Iwata has revealed.
“Because there are so many people who have the Nintendo 3DS in the company,” said Iwata speaking during Nintendo’s latest shareholder’s meeting, “most of the people finished “‘StreetPass Quest’ in such a short time and, as a result, many people are saying, ‘We want something new!’.
“Even Mr. Miyamoto has been asking, ‘Does anyone have a plan for ‘StreetPass Quest 2′?’ for several months, and several departments are currently considering such a possibility.
“Therefore, I cannot say when or what we can deliver, but we would like to change the minds of the people who are temporarily thinking, ‘I cannot see the point in carrying my Nintendo 3DS with me,’ to make them think, ‘Oh, I want to carry it around with me again.’”
StreetPass Quest is one of two minigames included with the Nintendo 3DS that make use of the console’s StreetPass functionality.
The game lets players send heroes into dungeons to battle ghosts and knights, rescue their Mii from capture and collect hats. Heroes are collected by walking past other 3DS users with an activated StreetPass.
However many have complained that because the games are so short they have no reason to continue carrying their 3DS on their person.
Nintendo 3DS launched in the UK in March. Some retailers are currently promoting the console for around £175.
