Nintendo UK GM David Yarnton has explained that by turning some of the 3DS’s features off, gamers can extend the 3.5-5 hour battery life originally estimated by Nintendo.
"Actually, if you have the 3D, Wi-Fi and other functions off it’s longer than five hours," said Yarnton talking to Eurogamer.
"You’re looking at a totally new piece of equipment that’s doing lots of different things compared to previous products. It’s a different ball-game. But if you don’t have the 3D on it will be longer than five hours."
Turn the 3D off? Doesn’t that negate the point of the 3DS, David?
Nintendo revealed the battery life of its upcoming handheld during its Nintendo World event in Japan earlier in the month, prompting many gamers to complain that the battery life was too short for a handheld gaming device.
Yarnton added that Nintendo encourages people "not to spend hours and hours and hours playing" and that recharging the battery often can prompt them "to have a break in-between".
Nintendo 3DS launches in the UK on March 25th. The unit is set to retail for between £200-£230.
