In a recent interview Nintendo UK’s product manager James Honeywell has claimed that the trend of pirating games is on a downward curve.
"I think perhaps there’s been a ‘heyday of piracy’ and we’ve now seen a lot of rules come in to stop it," Mr Honeywell explained to CVG.
"There’s definitely a step change coming and you see it in various countries around the world. People are aware that video games, music and movies make massive contributions to the economies of countries. They need to make sure they start protecting those things."
The 3DS is alleged to be the most secure platform Nintendo has ever produced.
These comments are contrary to recent claims by the UKIE (The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment) who yesterday reported that for every game purchased in the UK, four are acquired illegally.
By their very nature illegal practices are extremely hard to track and attribute numbers to, but it’s clear that every publisher, developer and manufacturer is debating how to combat the threat of piracy.
