Nintendo has announced that its twin-screened handheld the Nintendo DS has become the all-time best-selling console in the United States.
Since launching in November 2004, the Nintendo DS has sold more than 47 million units across its multiple SKUs including the DS lite, DSi and DSi XL.
Whilst we should be celebrating this milestone, we should remind Nintendo that the PlayStation 2 topped 50 million units almost two years ago.
Still, the Nintendo DS looks to top the PS2 success in a much shorter time.
"When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed."
The Nintendo DS’s success is expected to change early this year when the Nintendo 3DS launches worldwide this Spring.
