3DS games could cost as much as Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 games, according to product listings on the websites of various UK retailers.
Listings for 3DS games on The Hut suggest that games for Nintendo’s upcoming 3D handheld will carry an RRP of £39.99, a theory backed up by rival outlet HMV, who are asking £37.99 for Super Monkey Ball 3DS.
DS games currently retail at around £29.
It’s long been rumoured that 3DS games will cost more than standard DS games, with Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter predicting in July last year that "Nintendo will be able to increase DS software prices".
In October 2010, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that the price for 3DS games wouldn’t be "too far off from current DS software".
And earlier in the week, US retailer GameStop priced its 3DS games at $49.99, suggesting a higher price for 3DS games may definitely be on the cards.
Nintendo are still to announce an official price and release date for the 3DS in Europe, but keep your ear to the ground next week. Nintendo are expected to reveal full launch details next Wednesday, 19th January.
