HMV has launched an inventive new promotion that entitles customers to a discount on Nintendo 3DS games – using the 3DS’s StreetPass system to advertise the deal.
The promotion entitles customers to 10% off any 3DS game once they’ve collected an HMV store Mii using the 3DS’s StreetPass.
According to the terms on HMV’s website, the offer is only available in selected stores.
Although we’ve seen retailers using the 3DS’s StreetPass system before, this is the first time we’ve seen one of them using the service to advertise discounts and in-store promotions.
StreetPass lets users passively collect other 3DS users’ Miis and share game data with users in close proximity to them without actively linking the two handhelds.
The Nintendo 3DS launched in the UK back in March.
