US retailer GameStop has begun taking pre-orders for Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS console, according to sources on video games forum NeoGAF.
The retailer, which started taking pre-orders for the console this morning, is reportedly allowing customers to pre-order the 3D handheld for a $50 deposit. Customers can pre-order a maximum of two units.
Allocations, colours and bundles are still to be confirmed, but according to GameStop employees posting on the forum, orders will be taken on a first come, first served basis. If you live in the US and want one for launch day, you’d better get down there fast.
Customers can currently only pre-order the 3DS in store.
A North American and European price and release date for the 3DS is still to be confirmed by Nintendo, though a European release date is expected to be announced on January 19th.
The handheld launches in Japan on February 26th 2011.
The 3DS is Nintendo’s successor to the Nintendo DS, and allows games to be played in 3D without the need for 3D glasses. The console is rumoured to be almost as powerful as Nintendo’s previous home console, GameCube.
