Over 114 Million current-gen gaming consoles have been sold in Europe, says IDG data released today.
According to data collected up to December 2010, the Nintendo DS has the biggest market install base with 46 million units sold in Europe in just over five years.
This bodes very well for Nintendo as they introduce their successor, The Nintendo 3DS, into that market this year.
The Nintendo Wii also took an impressive 24.9 million units over its four year career.
Meanwhile Sony’s systems the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable took 14.7 million and 14.8 million respectively.
The Xbox 360 however is lagging behind with 13.7 million units sold in the territory. This is made more surprising by the fact it was the first home console in this list to appear on the market in December 2005.
Here is a list of each system’s lifetime sales in Europe (in order of popularity):
Nintendo DS – 46 million units
Nintendo Wii – 24.9 million units
Sony PSP – 14.8 million units
Sony PlayStation 3 – 14.7 million units
Xbox 360 – 13.7 million units
