Amazon has opened sign-ups for customers to be notified when Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS console is available for pre-order.
Customers who wish to be notified can select whether to receive an SMS message or email informing them the moment the 3DS is available for pre-order.
Both Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com are offering the service.
North American retailer GameStop began taking pre-orders for the 3DS on Boxing Day, but this is the first time the unit has been available to pre-order from an established retailer in the UK.
The 3DS is the successor to Nintendo’s DS handheld, and uses a unique display to project 3D images without the need for 3D glasses. However, the technology isn’t recommended for young children.
Nintendo issued a warning last week over the health risks posed by 3D technology to children under six years old.
A European price and release date for the unit is still to be announced, but is expected to be revealed at a press conference held by Nintendo on January 19th.
